First off I want to say, sorry I haven't been posting as much as normal, been super crazy busy with all the birds, I am still on daily reading posts, I just haven't had a whole lot of time to respond back :( I just had to tell you guys this quick story!

So a friend of ours stopped over tonight and my SO wanted to show him the babies. He asked me if it was okay to take him back and I said yea, just be quiet because there are mommas with babies and eggs. They go back to the breeder room/ nursery and I hear a blood curdling, "HUN! GET BACK HERE NOW!! COME QUICK!" Of course I jump out of my chair faster than if I'd been hit with a cattle prod, tear through the house and run back to the bird room. He then says, "one of the baby crimson bellies is on her back!" I looked in the brooder and I swear I thought for sure she was dead. I reached in as fast as I could, scooped her up and flipped her back onto her belly. She suddenly shook her head, slowly opened her eyes and just gave me this look like, "what?". I held her for a few minutes and she seemed absolutely fine, albeit a bit sleepy. I called the breeder I got her from, who was on her way to my house to drop off more babies. I frantically asked, "do baby conures sometimes sleep on their backs?!" She started laughing and said, "I guess I should have warned you about that, huh?" :20: I'm glad that she's okay, but man, did she have me scared! We've only had them like 2 days and this is my first time raising conures so i just couldn't believe it when I saw her laying there like that. I swear, these birds are gonna kill me one way or another

That's funny and scary at the same time!!! Glad the baby is okay, I can imagine how you felt.

I swear, the birds are going to make me go grey sooner than my kid will!

LOL!

I'm glad you shared.

I've seen pics of your budgies and parrotlets. I'm guessing budgies and parrotlets don't ever sleep on their backs?

I've read conures sleep on their backs, but our conure Boomer doesn't.

I can just imagine how you felt!:11:
By the way, I'm typing this with a poop-covered laptop lol. I think its their favorite toilet....:o

I haven't seen a bird sleeping on their back, but I did have a pet rat once who nearly gave me a heart attack... He was lying, on his back in his water bowl with hid head bent back over the edge... I was sure he was dead.. Crying, I went to get a towel, thinking I would put him in the freezer for the night and bury him tomorrow... The cheeky little thing was out of the water and eating, when I got back...

Aw poor Icy. I was already expecting that when I started raising conures. All my babies did it at one time or another. Scooter and Beebee still play on their backs and sometimes they sleep on their backs too. One of the babies I just weaned loves to be on her back, it's a little weird actually, she does it all the time.lol

LOL! Having bred birds for many years I remember long ago when this first happened to me. My little GCCs and Quakers would be in a pile, heads rolled back, feet curled to the sky! OMG! I thought I had killed them! They are so darn cute!:)

oh wow!!!! I would have freaked out!!! what silly little babes!! *goes on to fb to see if you have photos of them* :D
