I have just lost my mind. I can't say no to taking a parrot who needs a home. I just can't. But mind gone. Hahaha. I keep saying no more birds and they keep coming! Lol!

I was scrolling through our Facebook parrot group and saw an eccy with an over grown beak and scruffy feathers for rehoming. So I commented that the bird needed to see a vet and asked the rehoming fee. (Because I am nosey not because I was interested) and asked some other questions do that people could see more info about the bird cause i can't keep my nose out of other people's business (lol) ok so usually I just scroll by but for some reason this time there was that voice that just kept whispering in my head not to ignore that post. Which sounds super stupid when I say it but it's true. I just couldn't ignore it anyway. He messaged me and told me the bird was 200$ I told him we just started the Dave Ramsay budget so I couldn't pay but that he needed to see a vet and that the beak and feather condition signaled an underlying issue. He told me that he was in perfect condition but 8 months ago he flew away and then he just one day landed on the back porch and now he is rehoming him cause he can't take care of him (his old grandma told the same story and told us about a female eccy that died) this sounded strange to me because if my bird flew away I would be ecstatic to get it back not rehoming it but whatever (his loss will be my gain)

Anyway he then told me that if I would take care of him he would give me the bird free. So I went and got him. Within 20 minutes we were on our way to pick him up. He is really nice. They said he likes men more than women but they also said that most of the women in their house didn't want to handle him if he ever bit them so I think that may be a confidence thing. So we will see. He is in quarantine now. I need to take him to the vet. Day two of this budget and I'm already breaking it for the birds! Haha. Since they said he was loose for so long he will definitely need to be dewormed. Then be put on a good diet and lots of sun and showers. Hopefully his feathers grow back. Luckily he hasn't pulled the down out yet so he isn't bald chested but he is plucking or over preening on the chest and under wings so there is something going on.

Anyway his name is Cornelius.
His name can NOT STAY CORNELIUS! lol!
So he needs a new name.
I'll post pictures and update soon.
Night night everyone.

Congrats on the new boy! Can't wait for pics :)

So awesome that he will have you to nurse him back to health and love all over him. I might even keep the name and use "Corny" as a nickname. That's kind of cute, especially if he has the candy corn colored beak.

Congratulations :) That's so nice of you to adopt him and get him the care he needs to be healthy again. I'm sure he'll never forget it :)

I know it's so hard to limit yourself with these feathered free spirits but I'm realistically at my limit! I entertained the thought of an African Grey for about 5 seconds last Sunday, it was at local shop. However, my morning cleaning and routine takes near 3 hours or even a bit longer! Then another two or so hours in the afternoon! And This does not include cage time out btw! I have eight birds and I'm at max. I don't how you guys do it with more:52: luckily I don't work outside the home, thankfully I don't or I couldn't have them. A lovebird and one medium parrot would have to be my max then..... Anyway, well I'm rambling on..:p

Anyway, congrats on your new ekkie! I'm glad you could provide him a good home, there are so many in need in the islands.

Awww... Congrats on the new family member:D I'm glad you decided to take him (and hope you'll share some pics soon!). Hopefully it'll just be a easy to fix nutritional thing.

As for the budget, as someone who's always done the "envelope system" of budgeting (though not guided by anyone or any specific "program"), I always have a "emergency/miscellaneous" fund envelope. There is just no way you can budget for every single individual thing that may come up (I tried for years, never worked). Always good to have some "free money" to spend on whatever (or whoever;)) that isn't dedicated to being spent on anything else.

One last thing, what's wrong with the name Cornelius? That's half of my families last name:)

He has a vet appointment tomorrow at 1.
I spend all day every day cleaning up after kids and birds.

He will do just fine. I can't wait to know that he is clean and healthy so I can integrate him into the flock. I hate quarantine. It makes my life 100x more difficult. He took a shower a bit ago and is chilling outside on the back patio on the swing so he can get a little sun. It's overcast though so no one got much sunshine today. I have to find him a decent sized cage. He likes beans but won't even taste the fruit. I like to teach them to eat in communal bowls. Then they figure out that it's good food faster cause the other birds are eating it.

Cornelius just doesn't fit him. It could be cute for anyone else's pet but I just can't deal with it. Though I can't think of anything to change it to! Hahah

Congratulations Ariel, on your surprise new friend :D! I like the name Cornelius, but of course you have to like the name and think it fits him yourself .. No ideas at all yet?

Well here he is! Meet Rhaegal! (needed another game of thrones name lol)

And here is one of him before and after his vet visit and beak trim.... they found no mites but dewormed him with ivermectin anyway which should do worms and mites and lice.... He is really sweet... :D He is already seeming to look happier, I can't wait till quarantine is over. I probably will cut quarantine short a bit once all test results come back... i want to integrate him into the flock soon so he can start recovering... he plucks and feather barbers, but he isn't bald anywhere which makes me think it is a fairly new issue that hopefully can be reversed easily...

He's totally handsome. I never even knew they could trim beaks. He's going to be such a happy eater with his new, improved food scooper!

I love the name you've chosen. My husband and I are GoT fans as well, my Dexter was almost Tyrion or Varys, but we couldn't get the kids on board :(.

All my eccys are gonna be GOT's lol....
Drogo, Rhaegal, if we every get a female it will be Daenarys or Khalessi

I have a rabbit named john snow.... He knows nothing... lol

LOL on John Snow. If we got a female bird she would be Daenarys for sure. Actually, my husband is probably lucky we're not having any more kids, because if I had a girl......

So cute! I love eccies - thanks for the photos :)

He's a gorgeous bird. Congratulations on the new family member. The beak trim looks really good too.

I have met that rabbit. She speaks the truth.

Congratulations on Rhaegal! I'm hoping you're right regarding the possibility of his growing in some new feathers. Given the care and attention you are lavishing upon that him, I think there's a good chance that you are.

Rhaegal is fortunate that you tossed your new budget to the winds and went with your heart. Sounds like he's in very good hands.

And as a fellow GoT fan, I approve heartily of your choice! Lol!
