Today I took Chewy to get his wings and nails done. He really needed his nails done, I was bleeding from his nails and I was worried that he would scratch his eyeball or something.
Well anyways, as we were cutting them the person that was cutting them told me to come and look at this. So I did. Well I was right there holding the towel down.
He's horrible in the towel. Now I know why DAMN IT. Sorry. Well anyways, The place that I got him from I used to take him back there, before I realized that he was sick, and had them do his wings and nails. Well They cut his secondary feathers. The ones that aren't supposed to be cut.
What a moron. And I think they must have cut them too short too, because they have not grown back. And it was before he got sick that he was cut and trimmed. I'm so mad I want to go and strangle those people then cut their toes and secondary hairs off too. ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG I 'm so mad I'm screaming.
From what I understand, A, He never fledged right, so he never learned to fly, which makes since, since he never flew when his wings were long enough. And B. he aiun't going to be able to fly because of them cutting the secondary wing feathers.
And it's only on one wing, so they realized their "mistake" And didn't do it on the other wing. And didn't bother telling me, Because they knew that I would not know what the heck that meant.
You can do whatever you want to me, just don't mess with my bird.

I'm sorry you guys had such a bad experience. Don't worry, the feathers should grow back, just going to have to wait for them to fall out first.
I remember when I brought my Goffins cockatoo, baby, to this place for a nail trimming, before I started doing it myself. The idiots went and started cutting her feathers as well before I was able to stop them. They did one wing and cut them way too much. I screamed at them, retrieved my bird and didn't go back there for awhile.
A cockatoo doesn't require much to fly, since they are so light bodied. Poor kid was ruined for awhile.
I went home and trimmed the other wing properly. Eventually they all grew back fine. I keep most of my birds clipped now because they like to play outside. Tyler is left unclipped because he's very clumsy, falls down a lot and hates going outside.
I hope you feel better soon.. nothing makes me angrier than some moron not treating my babies right.

I feel bad for both you and Chewy. Though Chewy is in a better place right now because of you.

Chewy, that's horrible ... general rule for a good "clip" ... leave the outer four flights that way if they fall from a perch they won't hurt themselves ... keep an eye on him until those feathers grow back in ...:mad::mad:

Believe me I 'm keeping an eye on him.......I'm just so pissed ans sick over this that it is driving me nuts. I almost want to sedn them another nasty email telling htme exactly what I think of their wing job.
And it's not like they don't know what they are doing. They have done it for like ummmmmmmmmmat least 5-6 yrs. That's as long as I have known them and they used to do all my birds.
I could get a little sue happy over this. But I wont I don't have the time or the energy. And plus they were doing it for free fo rme at the time.

Whoa, I really can't believe that. Someone would have to really not have been paying attention when they did that. I was trained by my vet how to trim wings and the secondaries are SO obvious to a trained wing clipper. If you don't know what you're doing, don't feel comfortable doing it or can't pay attention to the task then you shouldn't be clipping someone else's bird!!!!

Sorry, feeling very outraged for you!! I hope they grow back soon for Chewy!

*thinking good thoughts for you*

Thank you I am so mad right now I can't even sleep though I'm exhausted.

I feel your pain Chewy. I'm trying to teach Popsicle to fly. She hates flying never done it until now. She will only fly when something spooks her and then its not exactly graceful.

WEll Ijust found out that they did it again. To another bird. Didn't trim it's nails or anything else just cut the secondary feathers. They are really pissin me off. Sorry

a place called Birdlovers. I thought they actually "loved"birds. but now I think that they are in it for the money. They charge 15 for a wing and nail trim
