Goofy (YNA), Oscar (Goffin 'too). Foster bird Betty (RLA). RIP Cookie, 1991-2016 ('tiel), Leo (Sengal), Charlotte (scarlet macaw). Grand-birds: Liam (budgie), Donovan (lovebird), RIP Angelo (budgie)
One of the problems I don't have is a lack of space in my house. It's a 5 bedroom, 3 bath, 4200 square foot monstrosity. However, I have run out of room in the current bird room, and while I can get Charlotte in there when it's time, I'd have to take my desk out, and I wanted to be able to stay in the bird room once she moved. So I was talking to MrC about rearranging the whole house. The living room is 24 feet, 3 inches by 13 feet, 9 inches, with several large windows perfect for birds to look out. I wanted to move all the living room furniture down to the rec room (900 square feet split in half to make a home gym area and an informal dining room/bar area), move the casual dining area that's there to the current bird room (which is really supposed to be the informal dining room), and make my formal dining room nice again. He wasn't going for it, but last night he told me I can do it! I have plenty of space for the birds, their play perches and our desks, and won't be tripping over things to move around. I'm so excited!

That's great that he finally relinquished the living room to the birds! Not that it's any surprise, really, how can you not give them what they want eventually? 😁

That is going to be amazing! Please share pictures when you have it set up:)

That sounds wonderful! I would definitely take advantage of all the space :).

I'll probably do things over the next two to three weeks. We've only had Charlotte for two weeks, but the vet said we can take her out of quarantine after the blood work for all the birds comes back. Hers as come back and she's all clear. We're taking the other three in on Tuesday for their blood work. It's not likely that they have anything contagious, but we just want do double check. That'll take a few days to come back, and when it does, so long as everything is good, he says we can move them in to the same room. So I'm going to start doing some of the little stuff now so when it's time I don't have as much to do for the major move. And I will definitely take pictures!

How exciting! Can't wait to hear/see whatchado
Lol @ hubby. Mine gave up on expecting things to be the same around here I'm always getting it in my head how to move things around to be more beneficial for Gracie (and eventually Rookie). As long as he has I can point him in the direction of his spots it's usually only minor grumbling lol

MrC is more properly Dr. C., with a Ph.D. in biophysics. He's a research scientist. Think of every single stereotype you can think of for a lab researcher and he probably fits the bill. That should give you an idea of his personality. He's also autistic and doesn't handle change well. So the idea of rearranging the house from what it's been for the last 22 years is pretty unnerving for him. I honestly never thought he'd actually approve of moving things around. I'm beyond thrilled.

Well all that said clearly he has great love for you and the Fids!!
I can imagine a full on house/room designation change is a lot to adjust too!
Our 18 yr has Aspergers I was actually surprised he has handled all of the changes without any discomfort He's really well adjusted but change tends to make anyone on the autism spectrum uncomfy so never can tell. Way to go for Dr C challenging his comfy zone :)

That's awesome! I'm jealous that most of my house could fit in your rec-room though. :D

My entire last apartment could fit into my rec room! And I lived there with three kids, so space was tight, to say the least. My first world problem is that my house is too big. Keeping it clean is a pain. But MrC and his late wife bought it 22 years ago (today, actually, is the anniversary of the closing date) and it was a short sale, so it's even more house than they would have otherwise been able to afford. When we combined households his house made the most sense, so here we are.

I got some things done yesterday. There were a couple bookcases in the living room and I got those moved to the guest room and started rearranging stuff in the rec room to make furniture moving easier. We've also gotten a hold of one of his ex-girlfriends, who lived here for a while before they broke up a few years before we met, and told her she needs to get the stuff she's been sitting here (a piano, some furniture, and other large items.) the house is big enough that it really wasn't in the way until now, when I want to make better use of the space it's taking up.

Room switch in progress! I just have Charlotte moved, and due to all the rooms having stuff in them it's going bit by bit, but here's the start.

That is going to look amazing! Keep the pictures coming, I can't wait to see it when it's finished!

To give you an idea of the size of the room, I was standing a few feet from the far edge. This is not a small room. I do have to go slow because of how anxious MrC gets when things start changing. My plan is to move Charlotte (done), Leo and my desk today and then let it sit for a few days while MrC gets used to it. Then I will move cookie, and last I will move Goofy and MrC. We have to pay attention the the stubborn old men in the house.

That's the way to go, remember you cannot push mud uphill so gently does it. Keep those pics coming, loving seeing your transformation in progress. :)

I've done all the heavy lifting I can do for the day. Here's where it stands. Charlotte, Leo and my desk are moved. The rest of the furniture moving will have to wait for another day. I will just piddle around and get things reorganized for the rest of the day.

I'm kinda staring at the stuff I have everywhere and somewhere along the way realized I lost the motivation to even put stuff away. So Charlotte is back on her play perch (she was in her cage for safety reasons while heavy furniture was being moved, as was Leo) and Leo is running all over my desk while I rot on the computer. I will get this done. I swear.

You will I have no doubt, you sound so fired up to do so and remember Rome wasn't made in a day, looking good and love the cage in the window btw. :)

Thanks. I think I just hit a little bump in the road last night. The amount of work required to do this is really quite a lot, and while I've done a ton already, looking around and realizing just how much there is left was just a little "ugh".

But today is a new day, and Leo has a new neighbor on Window Row. Now I just have to get the house completely put back together and wait a few weeks before we convince the cranky old men who don't handle change well that they want to move in here with us.

Looks really nice!! It is a gift to have so much room, but also poses the unintended dilemma of so many choices! Don't worry about perfection as you can always make additional changes.
