I dont know what to do!!

my IRN is INCREDIBLY cage territorial and he sometimes bites me! what should i do if there is anyway to fix this problem please help me everything seems pointless at the moment and i feel like giving up!! will he ever be a loving bird?

some basics first. how old is the bird? How long have u had him?

I am not sure how old he is but we got him last week of school last year in october at a pet shop.

can you contact the pet shop and get some info regrding his history? bottom line at this point you should treat him as a rescue bird and let him be at peace however that happens for him. When some of the more senior members see this in the morning I am sure they will have some good advice. I am not a breeder or a broker so I have very limited experience, but I am a nurse so history is everything. So if you can detail his behavior from day one up til (hitting the basics) now including any major events that have ocurred in ur lives together that will probably help them to steer u towards a solution for ur relationship.

Include what seems to set him off, what makes him happy with u also.

I am no expert either but I really feel for you as I couldn't wait for that close relationship either and would have been devastated if Puffin acted this way. One thing I do know is that I had a similar issue with my King Parrot who was not hand reared and I just took it day by day to build his trust, I would sit by his cage for a while each day gradually bringing the chair closer and letting him get used to me. Now I have no problems with him when I approach him and he has learnt to trust me.

My Rosie is super cage possessive also. I put a perch on the inside of the cage door. I do not let her out in the morning for about 1 hr. By that time she is wanting to come out very much. She waits for me on the door perch. It works every time. I clean the cage when she is not inside. She has had this behavior since day one and I just live with it and do not let it get the best of me. Try the perch idea and not letting the bird out of the cage in the am for a while and see if that helps.
