Re taking blood, indeed they go for the artery in the neck and I was surprised that... there are no feathers in that one spot. My vet showed it to me.

Yes, I love those spots. RB has two, one on either side of his neck... I discovered it while searching the bird for lice. No kidding. He seemed to me to be scratching a lot. I had had him for a few weeks and was still in the new-bird-owner-panic-phase. No lice.

Yeah, I didn't know that either. I just assumed they cut one nail shorter than the rest and took some blood for a sample.

When they brought Skitty back, I went to kiss him and smell him (yes, I'm obsess with sniffing Skitty, lol). I said to the vet, "he smells like alcohol". They told me because they wipe the area to sterilize it and it helps them find the vein in the neck.
