As you know, I've lost a fair amount of blood and I have had several nasty bruises due to Percy disliking me soooo intensely.

Well, following the advice here, we've made so much progress that today, for the first time, I just got soft, gentle beaking instead of 'I want to rip your hand off' bites!! And it wasn't a fluke because he did it again and again and even again after his afternoon nap! He does get a bit carried away and starts nipping harder but then I can easily remove his beak gently and when I say 'softly, baby!" he let go.

He held my fingers in the gentlest of bites. He slided an open beak up and down my hand, and tasted me all the while with his little tongue making chirpy noises. He even stuck his beak in between the knuckles of my closed hand. It was so rewarding not tto get bitten, I almost cried at how gentle he was being.

I'm so happy that my patience is paying off and so proud of my boy that he's beginning to realise and accept that not all women are stick-brandishing witches.

:D :D :D

Thanks! :). I've had him since about July last year. It has been a rough few months for me because he came to us hating women. We were told he's 5 years old but who knows? We were led to believe that his previous owners wife, couldn't stand Percy and from what we could tell, hit him or his cage with sticks :( I took him him over from his previous owner because Percy needed a home fast (his previous owner was an elderly gent who sadly started suffering from dementia) and my son had always wanted a tame bird. So, I though "why not?". ;). However, although he took an instant liking to my son I fell head over heels in love with this aggressive, entertaining, clever bird and made it my mission to win him over!

He haaaated me from the get-go and bit the living daylights out of me on many an occassion. But, I'm getting through to him, one tiny step at a time thanks to all the wonderful advice and tips I found on this forum.

Great news! Love hearing stuff like this...:)

This is the type of stuff we need to hear to keep to hope alive that we can DO this at a time we can feel hopeless. I'm sure many bird owners have felt like that, and as a result a bird gets rehomed, just securing the birds fear no one will truly love him forever

I am SOOOO happy for you and Percy!!

Your relationship with Percy is definitely a testament to the kind of patience, love, and persistance it can take with some of these little guys. :D it's exciting to know that all the hard work and blood spent has really paid off, and I'm excited to see where you two go from here :)

Michelle, that is such wonderful news! You have been working so hard with Percy that I knew it was going to pay off:)
I am thrilled for both of you!!

That's awesome! I'm so glad things seem to finally be working out for you and that Percy is finally getting comfortable enough to trust you. That's huge. :)

Congrats! This is a huge achievement! Here's hoping your fingers are safe from now on!
