Parrots
Pixie-White Capped Pionus
I just got off the phone with the breeder. They are mailing me the contract and I am mailing my deposit check back with it signed. He stated that is how he prefers to do it rather than paypal. I found him on birdbreeders.com and it is a breeder from IL.:D

Hatch date is 11/21/2011 and of course no shipping until fully weaned so I still will have some time to wait but YAY!! So now I just have to buy um everything!!

He is suppose to email me some pictures tonight or tomorrow and baby is a white capped Pionus :D.

So happy I feel like dancing!!

I just got pictures :). I uploaded them and hope I did this right so you all can see :D

He's adorable! Congratulations!

So absolutely exciting! What a precious baby! CONGRATULATIONS!

I'm so happy to hear! I bet this will be a wonderful bird for you and your family:)

What a gorgeous baby... Congratulations.. When do you expect to get him home?

The breeder told me it could be 5 to 6 more weeks. He also said it depends on the bird.

I am willing to be patient (willing but not promising I am inside lol) if it means a healthier baby and a better start.

I just can't wait!! :D

Thanks everyone for the kind words and responses! I am sure only you all can understand the excitement I feel. My husband and kids are happy about it but all evening when I have looked over at my computer desktop (his pic is my wallpaper) and just smile and make girly noises they all look at me like I have lost it lol. No one can understand why I am so excited about a bird. It is great to have you all to share it with so thank you :).

The wait will be worth it...

It took my Pionus 4.5 months to be ready to go home. this is good time to start reading about them , looking at cages and toys ....

your baby Pionus is very sweet !

It's so cool, too, to get to see them from the time they are little chicks. I only got to do that with one of my birds, and it was such a nice experience!

Well so far I have checked out every site I can find, but an amazon wishlist for him/her that could make the hubby weep lol, and just finished Parrots for Dummies tonight. The book has left feeling more confident and a tad nervous at the same time. Still trying to find more species specific info but apparently they aren't that common. I have a lot to learn I just want to be as prepared as I can. I want to do well from the start.

So exciting just seeing him grow though your right :).

I wonder if you could find a back issue of Bird Talk magazine during one of the times they featured Pionus. You might see if they sell back orders on their website, or check ebay.

awesome idea, I love ebay anyway I will check it out thanks :)

I may even have one as well, but if I do it would be like 11-12 years old. If I do though, I'll let you know and could mail it to you. I may or may not have kept all those back issues.

Yes, I got a great book on Alex the Grey on ebay last week for only $3 shipped! And it was in such good condition I couldn't even tell it was used.

Wanted to update my thread. Got a call from the breeder today he took the babies in for Surgical Sexing today and found out its a girl!. From what he is saying now she is on like 2 feedings a day, next week should be one so if all goes well she should come home the last week of Feb.

Very excited but concerned about having a female in a way cause of egg binding, I wonder how often that happens and scared of catching it in time I guess. Plus I am a tad disappointed in her being female because from what I understand that means even less chance she will have any talking ability.

I never expected a great talker in a Pionus. I knew that was not likely but I was hoping for maybe a handful of words over the years. From what I have read that isn't impossible with a hen just not as likely as it would be with a boy.

I am making peace with it and going over names for my pretty girl who I am sure will make up in personality anything I would have gotten from a talker!

I know its the bird herself that I will live with, her unique self that will eventually take over my heart and I am sure that her ability to tell me "hello" or "I love you" won't hurt that. I know what my yorkie is thinking most of the time and he doesn't do anything but stomp his feet and woof at me.

Don't count her out as a talker yet. She may speak some. Keep talking to her. Also, don't worry about egg binding. It could happen, but, often doesn't. Try not to pet her on the back, or belly. Only pet her head & neck. That will help keep her hormones down. Also, do not give her a mirror. Good luck with your new faby (feathered baby).
