He is my problem. Axel has a perch (I will have a picture of it below) It is made out of yarn. He has had it since he was a baby. He is almost 6 now. He loves this perch. He has used it as his night perch since he was little, always uses it for that no other perch just this one. I have been reading about all the trouble about stringy things not good for them. I figured I would change it out but I am afraid it will stress him out

Wow that looks comforting! BUT, knowing what we know, you really should change that. How you go about it, outright switch or or gradual replacement, no idea.

Sleeping perches are in and of themselves a problem when the material is a health issue. The first question is; does your Parrot chew on it or only perch while sleeping? This is a very important question as some will only sleep, while other are on it all the time and are chewing away at it.

The answer defines the time line!

Location, location, location! It is not uncommon that the location is as strong a reason for its use than it just been comfortable. Commonly a perch higher in the cage and with some line of sight distractions is a reason for a Parrot choosing a specific perch.

My experience is similar to Sailboat - my birds care more about the location than the perch itself. I had to switch out those rope perches for those in my flock that chew them - and they were pretty unbothered as long as the new perch let them sit in the same spot.

As stated above, toss it.
I lost my RLA due to chewing on a rope perch.
It was a most horrible passing.

I don't think I ever posted this picture in full.
If it prevents just one death of the type I went through it's worth it.

I went ahead and to out the perch.
But I would have to say Axel really did love that perch
Over the course of all the years he had that perch I must of moved it countless times. And no matter where it was he would go to that one to sleep.
