New owner of a rescued blue fronted amazon. He is 6yrs old and I am lucky enough to have known him all six of his years.

Hello all, My name is Chelle as of yesterday afternoon I have welcomed to my family Pablo. He is a Blue fronted amazon 6 years old. I got him from a friend of mine and now she has a new husband and a new baby Pablo was not being taken care of and until I picked him up didn't know how bad it was. But he will never have that issue as long as I live. Okay so here I go with the questions. First Pablo was very attached to my friend and hated her husband but her husband was mean and taunted him. So now he is in my home my husband picked him up,he talked to him,and kissed him. I want him to love my husband and in return when Pablo starts his screaming my husband won't freak.(he has no idea) By me letting my husband get some love is that good? When I went to get Pablo I got a DIRTY white chipped cage and a perch. I set up the perch after washing and I tore down his cage put it in my bathtub and scrubbed it clean. So I want new paint and I want safe paint. Where can I go to buy and what kind? I would like some suggestions on a good seed for him and how much seed and how much food should he have on top of fruits and veggies? How often should his beak be filed? I have a 4 and 1 year old. ( I know what are you thinking) I was hearing him screaming for me to save him! I have a large front and back porch not screened and I spend a lot of time there do I have to have a bug net over his cage? Last I think...I got dna papers from her thats all she had to give me. How do I get a transfer of ownership? I want him to have a band on his leg. Opps one more thing please. What is the best bird treat that I can give to him when he stops screaming. I hope because I can have him all over my home he will quit that. Thanks again.
:green:
Oh no How often should I bathe him? I haven't had a bird in 20 years.:o

It's fine to let Pablo love whoever he feels like loving.

Rather than paint the cage, I'd invest in a new one. Amazons chew, and I'd be nervous about handpainting.

I'd also get a good quality pellet and focus on switching slowly from seed to pellets. Lots of veggies, some fruit, whole grains....

You don't need transfer of ownership...just a receipt. You cannot band a fully grown bird...the band is just for breeder purposes, and is not needed.
A vet check will tell if he needs a beak filed, or toenails clipped.

Bird treats depend on the individual bird. Pay attention to what he REALLY likes, and then use that only for reward.

Thank you Sharon. This helps a lot. My poor husband has been the first one to meet Pablo's beak lol I had to tell him like I told my kids. When he backs up and is trying to get away he don't want you to touch him and goofy he will bite you. LOL but after a few hours and the bird and my 4 year old laughing and talking to each other he welcomed my husbands hand. As far as food goes he is eating a seed mix and he ate a good breakfast and lunch with a mix of veggies and fruits with both my kids. I took him to his perch that I have placed in my kitchen so he will be eating meals with us. As far as painting his cage I will take your advice on a new cage I'd like him to have a larger one anyway. Painting is kinda scary to me. I wouldn't want my kids to lick a freshly painted wall. I am trying to locate a vet who will see a parrot. I moved from a large city to a tiny country town and to get my dogs a vet here and even my family a doctor was a challenge. And thanks for clearing up the transfer of owner papers and band for me. We have decided to bird proof 100% with the only way get in or out will be from inside the house.... I also took every pot and pan with tef lon to the shed in the back yard. I will not be taking any chances with that or my 13 year old forgetting... So again I'd like to thank you. You have been a great help. I am sure I will be seeing you around. You guys are the only people I have been able to talk to and ask about things to. This relationship is going to be a wonderful one I can't wait for the next silly loving mess and mimic....Until then:green2::rolleyes::D

I'm glad you're having fun! Amazons are really lovely companion birds. I think you're really going to enjoy him, especially after he adjusts to his new home. Take your time, and let him choose the pace he wants to go. You've got about fifty to sixty years with him!!!LOL!!!
