I Have Chickies!!!

I have two ( maybe more, I couldn't see but definitely two ) cockatiel chickies!
The parents have been sitting on 5 eggs for a bit over 3 weeks!
They are cute lol ( some might say they're ugly, but not to me ).
These are my first cockatiel chicks, I've had budgies before.
Still haven't decided if I'm hand rearing or not, I can do it but it's a lot of work.

Congrats!!! It's not anymore work then hand rearing budgies. My 4 babies are flying pretty good now, getting close on fledging/weaning time. Several people is already emailing me about picking one up....I think I will have too many people ask for one like last time....One of the lady who got one from me last time is bring him back to ask me to show her how to clip his wings cause she wants to keep him clipped. And she's picking up another for her friend. IF you work or go to school, to make it easier, you might want to wait until they're 2 weeks old before removing to feed. It would make it a lot easier for you with less feedings per day.

They've been sitting on eggs for over 3 weeks???? Mine usually hatch between 14-28 days, mostly right at 19 days. I don't know how some hatch so quick at 14 days....I used to raise a lot of them....I used to mist the eggs a bit and the momma goes in to incubate. When they wait close to 28 days to hatch is when I start to wonder cause most of the time they're dead within the egg. Did you not candle the eggs to check for fertility?

I've been told that the eggs hatch at 3 weeks, and I don't think the first two were fertile, so they are right on time.
There's been no major temperature variations or anything, so that's probably why.
I love having chicks!
I could hand rear, but looking at the calender, I'm in Tazzie just after they're going to be weaned, and I wouldn't really trust anyone else to finish off hand rearing.

So they did hatch, I read it wrong...I thought they were still inside the eggs....hand raised chicks makes better pets!!! They wean anywhere from 45-60 days. Mine are 41, 41, 39, and 35 days old right now and they're all flying pretty good except the younger two is still learning to navigate better. I'm with you there, when they first hatch, they're adorable!!!!

Awwwwwwwwwww they look so tiny!!!! And what good parents I see they're doing a very good job of protecting the little chickies. Yay I can't wait to see them grow and feather out! Post lots of pictures please

I had a mating pair of cockatiels growing up, but the eggs weren't fertile. They were just as protective though! I see your birdies are good parents! :-D

Today I found one of the remaining eggs pecked open with a lot of blood and a dead chick in it so I guess there is a chance the last egg is fertile.
Poor thing looked like it was almost ready to hatch too, even had a bit of downy feathers.

These two are excellent parents, I was watching the hen feed them today ( AWWW ).
The dad's a bit useless, sits at the back of the nest box while mum does all the work I think lol.
More pics soon, just have to upload them and as my internet is slightly dodgy and stops working randomly, it could take a while.
