Hey everyone I'm looking to get a new bird and one of the birds I'm looking at is a green cheek conure. Some questions I have are: can the bird be left alone during the day well I go to school? Does It need a uv light for its cage? Any other info u have on these birds is appreciated thanks

they can be left alone for a while, does depend on the bird, and the time your away.
Also foraging, which can keep them busy for hours if you are going to do that.
My first one was the kind that couldn't be on her on,she would wait for me to come back and then not leave me alone.
She would stay in the same position when i left, she was that bonded,so i got her a partner, which turned her persona 180.(so glad at that!)
My 3 was also like her and she to got a partner now.
But i would say that they require a fairly large cage as they are very active birds.
Trough i am the type to say it is better to have 2,but i know not everyone agrees:rolleyes:
One of my cages has an uv lamp,i don't know if it is really needed but this is the cage furthest away from the window,so i like the thought of it.

Thanks for the help. I have one more question; are they very noisy birds?

I have 4 so they make more noise then 1.
But except for a few moments a day i don't hear them and they are in my room so i am very close to them.

All the conures I have ever seen are noisy squawkers. Especially the Nandays.

Nandays are aratinga, green cheeks are pyrrhura. There's a big difference. Aratinga are much louder. Green cheeks are known for being one of the quieter birds and good for apartments.

Thanks for all the advice I think all probably end up getting a green cheek conure

One last question I have is how often do u feed your conure fruits/veggies? What types of fruits/veggies do u feed your conure?

I couldn't find anything on that forum I know I'm asking this in the wrong forum but can anyone tell me how often to feed gcc's fruits an veggies and good fruits and veggies to feed them?

I have 3 green cheeks that are amazing! They are so funny and lovable. They have their moments of noisiness but for majority of the day they're quiet. I feed mine dried fruit and kale with their regular seed. I also give them bits of apple or grapes about once a day for a treat. I also put a little bit of supplement drops in their water. They are great birds and I don't think you can go wrong with a green cheek!

If you can you should offer them veggies everyday. If you make a veggie mix up you can easily do this by freezing in easy to serve portions. Veggies should only be left out for a few hours.

Here are two links to mixes I have made up before...

Always look up anything you are not sure of before feeding them! Look up if the skin of the veggie is okay for them or the seeds or the greens on top of the veggies or if they need to be cooked to be safe.

Also, green cheeks can be loud. They go longer then my sun conure when they get started. My sun has more volume but he only goes for like 30 secs. My green cheeks can go for 5 minutes easily when they get going. Just a warning that your guy might not be quiet after he settles into the house.

We have a UV out where the play stand is I'm not honestly sure its doing anything. If he can get a bit of natural sun that would be better for him.

Thanks everyone for all the help and advice! You guys have made my decision a lot easier!

I will! but I have to wait till summer (I'm in school and have a very busy schedule right now) or the beginning of school. After this year ill have lots of free time to spend with my new bird!

Nandays, Suns, Jendays... all way too loud and very vocal, which robs me of the fondness I'd otherwise have of them.

But the Blue Crown conure is also an Aratinga, and mine is almost always quieter than my green cheeks. Only if badly stressed or terrified will he shriek at the top of his lungs and that's just about never... the green cheeks aren't as discriminating... Blue Crowns I'd endorse as apartment birds. (I live in an apartment with three GCCs and one BCC.)

I think it depends on how the apartment is made too. We live in a complex with all our birds and the neighbors say they can't hear anything unless the windows are open. We have pretty quiet birds though even the cockatoo and sun.
