You could go down the track of having a necropsy done, if you want to do that then you should store Pretty Boy in the fridge, not the freezer, and have it done within 2 or 3 days at the outside. It's not always conclusive though, sometimes they help give some closure and sometimes they just don't. I lost my sweet little budgie Val about 10 days ago, also in the small hours of the morning. My husband was out of town at the time so I kept him in the fridge for a couple of days until he got home, then we laid him to rest in a big plant pot so that we can take him with us if/when we move house. I am sorry for your loss I know it's hard. I lost my oldest female Eclectus while she had a baby in the breeder box . It's been a year ago since we lost her,she had a heat stroke while they were in the outdoor aviary and I was at work. I kept her alive for 6 more days before she died in my arms, but I have baby Myra now . To answer your question, I put Petra in her box that I buried her in.
