So my husband is "intent" on using his oil lamps this year, but is now looking for a Eco safe / bird safe oil to use in them. I almost went completely ballistic on him when he lit one last night without first researching the oil he was using. And after my daughter found out the oil he was using was petroleum base and toxic he put it out.

Does anyone one here also use oil lamps or candles that require a certain kind of safe oil to burn. I don't burn candles unless I get the flameless ones because I know they are toxic to the birds. Here is what he is considering to on using, I really need help on this one.

Lamp Oil - Non-Toxic, Smokeless, Odorless, Clean-Burning & Safe

By the way I did check out the site completely, it says nothing other than its 100% organic and completely safe. Nothing in the faq section about birds and I left a message on thier machine waiting to hear back.

I know that olive oil can be used in the same fashion, but that's about all I know about that (lol) so you may have to do some more researching...

SoCalWendy I am not sure which oils are safe but you can research it on google. I am sure some people here might also know and have some good advice. I am glad you are aware of the dangers of using just any oils though. Good luck.

One solution, of course, would be to give your hubby a dig in the arm and tell him to stop being so bloody stubborn! *eyeroll*

I wish I could help but I am clueless. My husband can be very stubborn and frustrating when it comes to bird safety as well, yesterday he used Raid IN MY HOUSE! Granted it was on the complete opposite end of the house from the birds, the door to their room was closed, and all our windows were open, but I was so mad!
