I go crazy at the pet store looking at all of the puzzles, forging, and other toys for Stewie. Of course I can't have enough self control to ever come home empty handed. If money grew on trees he would have them all LOL.

I have been trying to think of simple ways to keep him from bordom with puzzles and games while not causing damage the bank account.

Tonight I let him watch me place a peanut into a piece of paper and crumble it up. He had a BLAST playing with it and getting to the peanut...we had to repeat it 3 more times.

Does anybody have other simple secrets that they could share? :D

I love the peanut in the paper idea! I am trying to find homemade boredom busters too.

I love the treat cages because you can add food treats with wood blocks and foot toys and it refillable. I would watch the peanut intake and go for almonds or other less fatty nuts. Any trick training is great for the mind, making your own toys is fun and limitless. Simple things like a drilled piece of wood with knotted leather is a great fun toy. Good luck and have fun!

Foraging toys are a fantastic way to stimulate parrot minds as long as you take the time to teach them how to use them.

My favorite thing to do is trick training, Rosie gets excited and is a very fast learner. So far she's learned each behavior in under 2 days. The current behavior is the a ring toss, it's the first behavior with objects so it will take a little longer. In our 15 minute session today she learned to put the biggest hoop on the stand if it's in front of her.

This is always a challange for us to meet. I really do think the birds get bored with their toys sometimes. My Rosie would rather throw them on floor which I guess she considers playing with them. Here is a place for you to look at:
Home - The Birdbrain

Buy some of the finger cuff things and stick treats in those. Or little cardboard boxes with shredded paper and treats in it. My grey destroys cardboard and has so much fun finding the treats inside.

GREAT ideas :-) Thank you so much. Copperarabian, how did you teach these to Rosie? I have seen the ring game and other games like that, I just don't know how to communicate to Stewie what I would like him to do with them :-)

One of Kazi's favorite toys so far is a willow wreath about 8" across to which I've attached almonds and other almond shaped objects wrapped up in tissue paper and straws cut in coils and attached in bunches to the wreath. He has tons to destroy, tons to find, stuff to eat and play with, and the straws are nice after meals to clean a beak on he tells me.

They're not expensive to make, but they do take a while. I can get a week or so out of them.

Ohhh I love that idea!!! Do you have any photos of them? Where do you get the wreaths? I worry about chemicals on the ones in the craft stores. See something like that is so fun for them and easy for us. Someone needs to write a book with ideasl ike that :-)
