If you had $100,000 to buy on your bird..

Lets say you magically got $100,000 but you could ONLY spend it on parrot related things (cages, toys, food, more birds, etc) what would you get for you and/or your parrot?


I would get Penelope (my cockatiel) one or two cage mates. Maybe another parrot too, something like Maxi pionus, galah, bronze winged, alexandrine, etc. Each of my parrot would have (depending on if they get along) giant cage in the house. And a big aviary outside. The aviarys/cages would have toys everywhere, plenty of food, perches. And the rest would be saved up for the vet, replacement toys/cages, etc.

And thennnnnnnnnnnn... I'll buy a fabulous outdoor/indoor (electronically-withdrawing roof, covering stainless steel bars) and outfit it with a Patagonian landscape... limestone mini-cliffs so he can burrow into them to make nests and passageways just like wild Rickeybirds)... sagebrush, sand, a running creek... and an oasis where green chile peppers grow in giant clumps!

I'm really not sure. I'm a modest human being. I'd probably just outfit her with a nice aviary cage, lots of toys, backup toys / stuff with 10 grand and then tuck the rest away in case she ever has a vet emergency. I'm going to have her for 30+ years. 90k is 3k a year, and thus 250 a month. That's plenty to keep her healthy and happy, and if something ever happens I have the munnies aside for bills, treatements, and her care.

Conservative I am. Yes.

Nice aviary cage, excellent perches, rope climbing thingy, and a really nice cushion for taking care of his needs for the rest of his life. When he went on to my son or daughter (they fight over who gets him when I kick the bucket...hey...I'm not planning on checking out tomorrow!) they would have savings to use for him.

I would get a custom built stainless indoor aviary (guessing upwards of $10K). I actually looked into a custom stainless cage at one point the size of his current cage and the estimate was $4,000 (HA!). Kiwi will be with us the rest of our lives, so a home for him that would last the rest of his life would be awesome! I would also probably hire a trainer. Not because Kiwi is not trainable (he does pretty well with new concepts), but I think a professional working one on one with us for a week would really be helpful for me. Other than those things, maybe a grand on some little miscellaneous items and would set the rest aside for vet visits, emergency costs and other things that may come up down the road.

I would definitely build a fantastic aviary and acquire a couple of my more expensive dream parrots, along with someone to help me clean the poop throughout my house every week. I would also start a really awesome parrot club so all of us obsessive parronts could spend more time together outside the forum! I'd set aside some for the future, then the rest could go to rescues.

I would travel and study! I want to work with endangered species and I would travel to Aviaries working with them and STUDY STUDY STUDY! Then I would build my facility and a couple of super rare mutation parrots to work with so my mutation work could fund my work with endangered species

I would build a bigger, better customized with all the bells and whistles outdoor aviary to let my birds enjoy outside/nature, and then I would take the balance of the money and pay it to my avian vet so I would never have to worry about upcoming vet bills. That peace of mind would be such a luxury!

Then I'd spend the rest on toys. Heck, Charlotte could go through $10k worth of toys quite easily in a very short amount of time. Thankfully she also likes gnawing on chunks of wood, so I can get away with buying untreated lumbar at the hardware store and cutting it to size, which is far less expensive than real toys, though I do buy her a lot of those.
