Hello guys. I am hoping to get a quaker parakeet in the near future. I have wanted a bird for years, and I'm doing a lot of research on them. My parents are considering letting me get a bird, I still have a lot of questions to ask and I'm still confused about a lot of things. For a while I was scared of birds because I have been bitten by them before. But recently I met a lot of friendly birds and decided they can be nice. I hope to learn a lot about parrots on this forum.:green2:

Hello and welcome!
There are several people here who have quakers and I am sure they will be happy to help you with any questions you may have. I am glad you joined us!

Bottom line: Birds are on the dinner menu for most every creature out there. They are a prey species, not a predator species. Making friends with a predator can be a deadly mistake, and we are basically overriding some of their natural instincts for self preservation by teaching them to trust us.

Even tame, friendly birds can and will sometimes bite, if they are approached incorrectly, if they get spooked, or if someone annoys them...

Quakers are feisty and playful by nature, and are pretty easy to train.
