After few years, I have decided to join again as I am thinking about adding a fid to the family. I have fostered birds - parakeets, cockatiels, amazon, macaws, greys, etc and now want to add a permanent member to the family. Hoping to adopt rather then buy one at a pet store. I have always taken in all types of animals including guinea pigs, turtles, fish, dogs and cats and hope to find a suitable homes for them.

Hey bk, welcome to the forum. what part of the world are you in?? Maybe we can help you find a bird to adopt.

welcome to the forum. What type of bird are you looking for?:D

HI everyone - I am in Brooklyn, NYC. Interested in Adopting African Greys or Large macaws

Yesterday, I went back to the bird store near my office that I used to buy supplies from when I had my parrots. The owner is no longer selling birds due to the hard times people are facing. He said people drop off birds regularly as they are unable to care for them. He introduced me to a Jardine that he currently has for adoption. I didnt know anything about them. I read up on them last time and I think they might be a great parrot. I think Macaws might be too much and cannot have more then one so a smaller parrot might be ideal. I am going to visit this little Jardine and see if there is a match. Still want an african grey too.

Let us know how you make out. I have only seen the jardine in pictures but they are beautiful birds. If you get him we love pictures:D

Most definitely - will post photos once I can bring him home. Might be a while.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for wanting to adopt. I just adopted my two cockatiels Harley & Quinn. I hope your new bird(s) bond well to you and thanks for wanting to give a bird a new forever home.

Welcome to the forum and thanks.

Update - So I spent some time with the Jardine - Deejay and read the letter his owner had left with the shop owner. Very sweet and calm bird. I am very sure that I will be allowed to adopt him.
On a different note, I called another rescue place that usually has donated cages for sale are reduced prices. I found a cage but I also found a sulfur crested cockatoo plucked front and back that someone dropped off in a box. Its possible this bird is 50 years old if not older. Very sweet bird who stepped up after few minutes and snuggled with me. I am going to foster him and hope his feathers grow back in. His owner died and the children gave away the bird to someone who didnt care about him and finally dropped him off. Any advice on cockatoos will be greatly appreciated as I am not familiar with them.
