Hi, I'm just here doing research and looking around. I've loved parrots since I was a little girl after I met George, an umbrella cockatoo, while I stayed at a friends house during the summer. My uncle had an African grey, Sara, when I was growing up as well. My only personal experience of my own are budgies when I was younger.

I would love to have my own large bird, an African grey or galah, but my current living/work situation wouldn't make it fair to the bird. In a couple of years, though, that will change and I might be able to properly take care of such a complex species needs. Until that time, I'll absorb all the knowledge and experience I can...

Thanks,

Jenne

Welcome to the forums, Jenne! Thank you for carefully analyzing your situation and having the willpower to defer living with a bird. When the time is best, you'll have many options. Until then, enjoy the forums and feel free to ask questions!

Consider volunteering at a local Parrot Rescue, to get a lot of experience , direct experience in working with large parrots to get a better idea of what you want, and more importantly, what is best for these amazing creatures. At your age , a large macaw, cockatoo or even a Grey could live just as long as you do, and be a life long companion. Welcome to our forum.

At 38, they may live longer which is a concern for me. I'll have to look at local rescues, that's a great idea.
