Hey everyone,
Nacho, the sun conure, is past the 6 week mark in quarantine. I was planning on introducing him and Tiki, my GCC soon... but I think I'm going to wait a little longer since Tiki's recent trauma as she's still not completely herself yet.
I just want to get some ideas and advice together before hand.
Tiki is a DNA female, 6+ years old and, as far as I know always been an only bird.
Nacho will be 7 years old in August, presumably male, and has also, as far as I know, always been an only bird.
Based on the way Tiki behaves around new people, and even new animals, I think she will be very excited to have a new friend.
I think Nacho is going to be a problem.
Tiki always answers Nacho's calls... he always ignores hers. I played videos of Nacho on my phone to Tiki, and she head bobs and tries to preen his face.
I played a video of Tiki for Nacho, and he lunged at her feet in the video
Could just be a coincidence.
I'm very nervous because Nacho is much much bigger than Tiki.
Currently, they are each in their own bedroom.
Ideally, I want Nacho moved into Tiki's current bedroom (the 'bird room'/library). His room is a guest bedroom. I'm assuming they will both probably be territorial of their "bedrooms".
Should I wheel their cages into another spare bedroom, together? That way they still feel comfortable in their respective cages.. but the neutral territory would be an unfamiliar room.
After a few days of seeing and hearing each other, if they seem to enjoy each other's company, maybe work on bringing them out together?
Any suggestions?
Any one care to share their experiences introducing 'adult' birds?
Thanks!
