Green cheek conure
Hello! My name is Tyler and recently joined the forum after my 6 month old GCC Chipper joined my life. I have never owned a bird until now but have thoroughly enjoyed learning and researching about my new best friend. With some helpful advice from my local bird shop (Bizee Bird Store in Beaverton,OR) Chipper has seems to be as happy to be in his new home as I am to have him.
About Chipper: He (or possibly she, I haven't had a DNA test done and don't really plan to) was hatched on March 15th. I was running some errands on the 4th of July at the local PetSmart and stumbled across Chipper. He was in a large glass and wire cage and immediately came out of his Fuzzy Hut to come greet me when I faced the cage. He climbed onto the wire front of the cage and began nibbling my finger in a very light inquisitive way. After playing with him for 10 minutes or so I fell in love and decided he was coming home with me. I admit buying Chipper was maybe the biggest impulse buy I have ever made but I couldn't be happier about it.
 I consider him an expensive rescue. Chipper had a very nice cage/house setup and there are some really awesome, knowledgeable, caring, people that work at my local PetSmart; but after having Chipper for a little over a month I can't imagine him having to be in his cage for that long and having to be alone after closing time.
I have some pictures of the cage I bought for Chipper and the necklace I made for him to play with while he is on my shoulder. I plan on upgrading the cage in the next few months and use the one I have now for a sleeping setup, or to keep at my parents house so I don't have to move his cage if I go home to visit for the weekend.
Thanks for taking the time to read my introduction and Thank You for any helpful advice I may receive from you in the future!

Hi Tyler!
My name is Jo and I live in Melbourne, Australia. Chipper looks very similar to Perseus, we got him about 6 months ago and he is now about a year old. I too must confess to an impulse buy of sorts, I went back 3 times before I just couldn't leave again without him! Before that I had pretty much zero bird experience and no ideas about green cheek conures, but like you i couldn't be happier on my impulse and have learnt so much in the last 6 months.
I'm also guessing about Perseus being a boy but I would be stunned if he wasn't, he really has a guys personality in my opinion.
Heres a pic of my man about to launch at the camera! He is facinated by the clicking sound when I take a pic and it's hard for me to get more than one before he's on the run charging at the phone to have an investigative nibble.
I know you are new to the conure world too but do have any advice on where to find a list of ok fruits for them to eat? Perseus loves his fruit and I know most is ok, it's when I start googling specific fruits that I tend to find contradicting info. Everyone agrees on the obvious ones: avocado, chocolate etc. But when I have googled spinach, paw paw & papaya I have found people in different forums saying everything from absolutely NO WAY they're toxic to YES my bird loves em!
So anything like that I haven't let my man taste yet but every fruit I have given him so far he loves so I don't want to deny him something yummy and new unless I need to.
What does chipper like to eat fruit and veg wise? PS GREAT name!

Welcome to the forum!!! :)

Thanks everyone! And to Jo: Chipper also loves seedless grapes. Another one of his favorites is carrot. :p He is trying to make me healthy with all the fruit and veggies that I have been buying for him

Welcome and I would recommend one thing. Some people don't do the testing to see if they have a male or female BUT I recommend it b/c when your parrot reaches sexual maturity it will help you understand why they may be showing certain behaviors etc. It is better to know then to not know IMO

Hey Tyler - I love it! We're the same the amount of fresh fruit and veg in our fridge is about 10 times more than before Perseus arrival, they say pets increase your life span maybe with parrots this is part of it!
How's Chipper like his carrot? Cooked or raw? Grated or chunks?
