Introducing my bird to its cage

Hello everyone

My alex currently lives in a makeshift brooder which I made from a picnic basket. As long as it is in the basket, it is very friendly and would actually not be bothered if I add goodies.

I tried to shift my bird to a cage. (2.5 ft by 2.5 ft, plenty of toys). The bird seemed to be comfortable in the cage and started exploring it. The problem was getting it out of the cage ! I have been bitten once or twice by my alex and the pain was overwhelming (I've had an IRN and that bite was tolerable) so I guess I have a fear of its beak now.

It wouldn't walk over to me when I called it but as soon as I showed it its feeding syringe, it walked over happily but still it took some time before it stepped up and I removed it from the cage.

I dont mind keeping it in the picnic basket but in a month or two it will be cramped for the bird and it would most certainly damage its wings. Also I dont want to be bitten by the bird on a regular basis as I don't have the stamina to deal with so much pain :(

What to do ?

P.S the parrot hasnt weened yet. its a 3 month old alex now.
