Introducing Yuri! Ona’s New Sister!

I’ve been thinking about getting a black cap for a while now. So today I walked in a new pet store “just to look” and….

She is SO sweet!!! So, everyone meet Ona’s new sister, Yuri!!

She’s a shoulder snuggler!! So gentle and sweet. She will be kept completely separate from Ona for two weeks for quarantine and will get her to the vet!

I think Ona is going to love her!

Yuri discovered the joy of laptops today and got to participate in her first video call.

I’ve been trying to offer her veggies and she finally nibbled at a carrot

She is eating mostly seeds right now unfortunately so working on that.

She is getting excited to see me when I go into her temporary room She’s soo quiet so far and barely makes a peep. Very dainty and sweet. When she meets Ona I already know who the dominant bird will be Can’t wait until she doesn’t need to be separated and can be fully with us!!

Got her an appointment for tomorrow for her wellness check!!

Yuri will transition off the seeds soon enough once she gets a look at what Ona is eating, she's very young and not yet set in her ways and there's nothing better than an older sibling to show a newbie the ropes. And I hope Yuri goes well at the vet, she's gonna charm the socks off 'em down there!

Today was Yuri’s first vet visit!

She did great! They were impressed by how sweet she is! She barely even minded the vet handling her. My bird sitter works at the vet and she got to see her as well. When they took her back I immediately heard a loud chorus of “AWWWW!” Now she didn’t like the pokes too much and I did actually hear her scream for the first time. It was quiet compared to Ona. They couldn’t get enough blood for the ABV test today so I have to take her back in a couple weeks for that.

I am super bummed to hear they recommend a quarantine period of a month! I’ll do it if that’s what’s best for Ona but man! Going to be tough.

It's hard to keep birds apart but a month will go by quickly, especially in the summer.
I hope they get along. Ona seems to love other birds and Yuri is sweet, too.
Is Yuri sexed by DNA? You certainly wouldn't want to give Ona a boyfriend!

She was tested yesterday!!! The pet store just said "we were verbally told she's a girl".
