Milo - Turquoise Green Cheek Conure (Male, 2 years old)
Oli - Dusky Conure (Male?? Baby, few months old)
Hello everybody! New to the forum, and the proud owner of two lovely conures.

I’ve had my turquoise gcc Milo for just over 2 years now, and recently got a new baby dusky (Oli). I was a bit worried they wouldn’t get along because Milo hates anyone who isn’t me, but he went into total overbearing father mode and preens the baby constantly. They do have little fights, but they aren’t actually trying to hurt each other afaik and they stop if I put my hand between them.

When I got the new bird, I thought it would be perfect since I sort of know what I’m doing now, and can train him to be comfortable with toweling, car rides, nail trimming... basically all the things Milo hates. But immediately those plans came crashing down when I realized he has zero food motivation. He eats fine, and he’s not picky at all, he just doesn’t seem at all excited for treats. I’ve tried safflower and sunflower seeds, millet, walnuts, almonds, peanuts, dried mango, etc. with no luck. Any suggestions as to how I can go about training him?

TL;DR Any treat suggestions for my Dusky Conure who doesn’t go crazy for nuts and seeds?

Welcome!

What a precious pair!

I haven't had experience with that particular problem, but while we're waiting for input from others, I'd suggest playing with the Search tab above. It's a good engine, and often turns up good previous threads and posts of interest.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to you, Milo, and Oli. Gorgeous birds!!

In the absence of food as motivator, perhaps clicker and target training may be helpful: http://www.parrotforums.com/training/60435-clicker-target-training.html

Well, you've rung the bell with most of the popular treats. Might try plain (original) Cheerios as treat? It is the least offensive of dry cereals. Also plain cooked oatmeal served at room temperature. Both are favorites with my flock. Most of my birds enjoy bits of toasted whole grain bread, especially types with whole seeds.
