Okay, I'm trying to decide between an IRN and a GCC, my biggest hurdle is that we live in an apartment. I know most people recommend a GCC for anyone living in an apartment, but I've also read the IRNs are good for apartment dwellers as well. Unfortunately I've also read that IRNs are NOT good for an apartment because they're too loud. So can anyone clarify this for me? Are IRNs really THAT loud? Any input would be greatly appreciated

funny, the local breeder that I've been emailing has said that her IRNs are a lot louder than a GCC

Thats strange LOL... I have a friend that breeds IRNs and she also has 2 GCC as pets in her House .. When the Conures start it is a real Ear piercing screech , but the Ring Necks in her aviary I find tolerable! Maybe different people have a different tolerence to certain pitches:)

I personally don't think Gcc's are that loud. Now Sun conures are. I think it is the pitch of the noise that is more acceptable to the ear. I would go with Gcc.

the question is though, would either be suitable for an apartment?

it's just a shame that gcc's dont talk as well as irn's

I find the noises GCC to be a lot more piercing than IRN's but I am pretty sensitive to sound. I don't own either, but I have spent a lot of time with both. I personally would go for an IRN, but GCC's that I know are all really cuddly. Truthfully I think both would be fine for apartment living, as neither are too too loud. Maybe spend some time with both species and listen to their vocal, or just youtube them. If you think the noise levels are about the same, I would just go with which bird you like the most, noise aside.

My IRN has a sweet voice. Much softer then my Quakers. I think it depend on the bird it self plus how thick your walls are lol.
