I have a 6 month old female conure. Her name is Willow. I wanted to take her with me to visit my cousin. She wants to meet Willow. My cousin lives alone. She is very clean and has no pets. I have 2 carriers that i purchased for Willow. I read all the safety precautions for travel. I too live alone and am very informed about my bird. I wanted advice about taking her in a car. My cousin lives 45 minutes away. I know i would need to bring food and water and toys. Is this safe for me to do? Thank you.

Should be fine. I would keep the cage below eye level or have a towel to partially cover the cage. Some, rarely, get car sick. Know that she may not act the same in a new location, at least til she feels comfortable. BE VERY AWARE at the sis's house about open doors etc - they will not have the needed cautions ingrained and Willow might be more flighty.

My Salty travels well by day, but at night the lights whizzing by scare him and I have to cover him entirely.

Some parrots like to ride in a car, like my old Amazon George. Some do not, like the Quaker parrot and African grey that I had. It would be a good idea for you to take Willow on some local car rides before taking a longer trip to see how she reacts and to get her used to it. It might help to put one or two toys in the transport cage so Willow would have something to do when traveling. As wrench13 pointed out, it's necessary to make sure your cousin's house is completely bird safe too. Willow might need a little help to settle in and get comfortable there too. Just like with riding in a car, different parrots react differently to being moved to a new environment.

How are you going to travel? I travel a lot with my CAG in a car. I got her used to it by taking her short trips. I have an old and used beach towel that I use to cover cage if needed. This can be used in transit and as cage cover if needed. Plan your final stop area arrangement. Goal is to have it comfortable and a home feel. A plastic shower curtain tumb tacked will protect walls. Have copies of vet records if possible for emergency. This will save time. Have you had your bird long enough to get a feeling for her likes and dislikes? If so plan accordingly. My CAG is comfortable at a variety of places. She has her partial cage cover, shower curtain for wall, cage for other than home use, tablet for audio books especially dramatized and TV set. If there are end location pets please consider a way to block access to your birds area. This will decrease stress for every one.
