Is it safe to have a small fire in the same room as my budgie?

I'm planning on getting one of those stirling engine desk things that has an engine that runs off of a small gas flame and i'm a little worried if the gasses coming off the flan is harmful?

It depends...generally, closed oil heaters are safest for brids (outside of standard furnaces etc). Burning ANYTHING can harm them, but it just depends--- fat/grease/fry heated at high temps (even if not burned) can kill them, ptfe/pfe/pfoa/pfcs can kill them, cleaners, oils, scents, candles, vapes, wax melters etc---- they are just SO sensitive that I wouldn't use a fireplace with mine around (gas or wood).

Yes, the created gas is a problem! But, the greatest problem is the open moving parts! Consider if your bird gets any part of it's self in the moving parts. At a worst case, you could be enjoying your bird as the Stirling Desk Engine is pulling your bird into its works, kill your bird.

No its not safe!

I have one of these on my desk in my office in NYC. That one runs on a small alcohol lamp. I mean how much are you actually gonna run this? 10 min maybe? I wouldn't have your parrot out, just in case. If you plan on running one to power your lamp with a cutesy generator, that's too long. I share your dilemma, I have a steam locomotive thats itching to be fired up, but not in the garage - coal burn nasty.
