Hi, I'm looking to get a cockatiel and I've been searching around for a breeder. I came across this pet store in my research though: "Pet Paradise, Virginia Beach, VA 23462"
I normally know that birds from breeders are generally more tame and probably healthier, but this local pet store piqued my interest. It seems that their birds are in one room and are able to be interacted with by the customers, and they aren't confined to cages all the time. (Could this be a problem...? Kids might be running around terrorizing the birds.) They're independent and are family run since 1984. It also appears that they hand feed their birds. I've been having trouble finding a breeder with appropriate pricing, and I think this pet store is pretty cheap. Would you guys say that it would be a good idea to get a bird from this pet store? It has a lot of good reviews and seems like they have a wide variety. I'm really uncertain about this store.

edit: sorry for the wrong category, just noticed it

I've gotten wonderful birds from a petstores.
My first green cheek came from a petstore like you described, and was the only place I've ever come across knowledgeable staff.

Often pet stores have a veterinarian check out the bird and test for the common virus and provide a health certificate.

If you meet a well adjusted bird and you click , I'd go for it.

It would be wonderful if there were lots of small family breeders providing quality veterinarian care, and spending tge time to raise babies. But the truth is they are few and far between. Sometimes its just people who had possibly related birds breed.

Trust your instincts. And if the bird chooses you that's the bird for you

Given the voluminous scams associated with online buying, please consider family-owned stores with longevity. There will never be retail or breeding nirvana, so visit if possible and associate with birds of interest. Engage employees and develop a rapport, you'll learn much from interactions. If you narrow down to a few choices, consider letting the bird choose you! This bodes very well for bonding and earning trust once in your home.

Yelp reviews reasonably good, you'll have to sift through many entries to reach a conclusion!
