12-13-13, bought a GCG from PetSmart who was born 7 months ago on 5-3-13(yes i was having a bad week) they said she always has to be chased in order to get her out of the cage.
even though i held her on the drive home, to and into another store to buy good toys and then for a few hours after, once i put her on top of the bird cage to snack, then i tried to pick her up, she RAN like my Budgies do! man i was sad, on another note at one point i let her sit atop her cage and when i put my head and shoulders close to her she climbed aboard.
so my question isssss. is is too late, or a mistake to buy a bird from a chain store? they said she'd been there since she was weaned, & they said she was hand fed & she's had two vaccines that i cant pronounce.
i can return her for a few days, but she seems pretty sweet.
what do you all think.
ps i only work 3 days a week, so i have lots of time to spend with her

Congrtats on your new friend. I think you made a great choice in purchasing a GCC I am a little biased, however, because a Greencheek is the only parrot I have ever owned, and I find it hard to believe that any parrot could be a BETTER companion than my Cracker. It sounds like both of you are off to a pretty good start, and so long as that is the case it does not matter where you purchased your friend. There MIGHT BE a hard adustment period with your GCC, but if you stick it out you will not regret it. GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW FRIEND.

thx Winston, that's what i wanted, a new friend! i'm about to vacuum, so i put her and the budgies in the spare room for a bit, when i put my fingers to her cage to reassure her, she licked my finger, awww. i really dont know if she's a boy or girl. AND DH hasn't noticed the new bird.....i just won't mention it...

okk, day two with new bird. he NEVER poops on me, waits till i put him on the playpen then goes, he can't WAIT to climb on me if i walk by. i am IN LOVE period.

Sand, congrats on your new friend! I, too am very biased towards GCCs, as I have 2 and they are my first birds. You are on the right track, but it will take some time to really earn your new baby's trust. Don't give up! I have learned so much about being a birdy mom from this forum, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Also, we love to see pics! *hint hint!*

GCCs are darling little birds, very easy to fall in love with!
