I just read the post about the birds in poor health and yes the pics are horrendous . but as for the bird with the missing beak I had that happen me too me I had two GCC brothers from the same clutch one was smarter than good for him and his brother was dumb as a post. I had them boarded at a really good pet store in Miami and after the staff left one night my bird escaped his cage and went visiting and a Yellow nape got his beak. I got the call the next morning and by the time I got there a vet had been there and checked him out. it wasn't as bad as the one in the picture in that other post but it was bad the amazing thing was the brother who wasn't smart enough to escape was feeding his brother like a momma bird feeds he babies, I started feeding him oat meal and other soft foods while his brother feed him pellets and he never lost a gram of weight and in time it grew back but for well over a year he couldn't pick up a penny to do the piggy bank trick which he loved to do but now the penny stuck up and he couldn't figure how to get it in the bank, and his brother never learned how to do the trick. Sorry this was so long winded but a bird getting hurt sometimes can't be avoided and is not the owners fault. Oh and the hotel who caused me to board my bird because of their no pet policy Changed their policy and allowed me to bring my birds into my room and all the staff fell in love with my babies missing beak and all.

Though it is horrible looking, losing part of their beaks is not as bad as you might think. As long as they are properly cared for, it will grow back. And is more common than you might think.

Billsbirds that is so true. But sometimes they don't grow out. It depends how damaged the beak is.

I have just finished weaning a friends tiel, poor little thing was found in the seed dish just hatched. Seems it was thrown out of the nest. It had a horrible injury to a little wing. The whole wing died & fell off after a few days. We kept going as this little fellow had such a will to live. 9 weeks later it is a beautiful little handicapped pet. I am also trying to save a stunted baby boy eclectus, He is 3 months old & will have a few physical problems to overcome. He still hasn't feathered out properly & only weighs 280 grams. The owner will keep him for a companion parrot once he is weaned.

Thanks for the info! I merely wanted to report it because of the many additional warning signs. I talked to the breeder herself and she said many things that caused me to worry. I certainly won't judge anyone who is unfortunate enough to have this happen to their babies, takes proper care of them and has them vetted!

Alas, so many different things can happen to a birdy, or it can even be birth defects in many cases - with nothing the owner could have done. As long as there are people out there who are willing to put in the special effort to care for these animals I will continue to have faith in humanity. c:

I saw a show on TV of how some vets can make an artificial beak for a bird.
