I have the cutest kakariki couple and its a first timer for me having an egglaying couple, i've noticed that the female has left the hollow and hasnt been on the egg for a couple of hours.

So my questions are:
How long do they tend to leave the egg/eggs?
is there a possebility she wount take care of it because she is to young?
any other good advice?

All feedback is appreciated :)

some birds dont start stilling until after the there is more than one egg, not sure if kakarikis are one of them

She may not sit them very "tight" until she has a clutch. First time pairs are rarely successful. Have you DNAed? I don't know anything about Kakariki. If you think you have a good pair, leave the eggs there for 30 days after she has laid the last one. I'd check for fertility at some point (candle). If the first clutch fails because of poor parenting skills don't worry. Many times they will lay again after pulling the unhatched eggs, and this time chances are much better. It's a skill they have to learn, not 100% instinct.

Any word? How is it going?
