Kissing!

Is it okay to kiss your bird? I kiss Maui's neck all the time and I think - what I reading ... i should not do this? He is just 6 months old and loves to snuggle up to me, but that might change right? He likes to be under my neck. Not a good idea? Let me know if I should break MY habit now?

I also say "kissy" ... and he leans forward for a kiss on his beak.

I think i know the answer you all are going to tell me - I need to stop right?????

When will he change from baby to MAN?

Kissing is perfectly fine, just make sure they are always DRY kisses. Our saliva can be deadly for parrots because of the gram negative bacteria we have in our mouth that birds don't have(and probably other stuff too). Gram negative bacteria includes SALMONELLA, there are always trace amounts of this in our mouth and many birds have gotten deadly ill and even died to the devastation of their humans.

I love giving Rosie kisses on top of her head and her neck, plus she smells so good lol.

One import thing! It is important to know the risk of having your bird so close to your face, if you get bitten it is entirely your fault and your bird should never be punished for it.

I kiss all three of my feathered babies. Jax especially likes to press his beak to my mouth when I speak. I think he likes the vibration. I agree with be aware of the potential dangers to having a bird that close to your face and keep kisses dry.

I give Coby kisses all the time. As the others have already said make sure the kisses are dry. For safety, I always keep ahold of the end of Coby's beak when I give him kisses on his head and on the side of his beak. When taking the proper precautions it is perfectly fine to give birdie kisses. Most of our feathered friends love getting kisses.

I am happy to report with total glee I DO kiss my Oliver!!! After many posts admitting to my fear of his beak I have graduated to kissing his head, back, and neck. I do avoid his beak because I am a chicken and I know the saliva is deadly for him...so for both of our sakes I do skip a total smooch, besides my husband is already jealous of Oliver who takes showers with me and hangs with me whenever he can.
