Kiwi is a very active forager. He knows the drill when he sees a treat go in a toy. This particular foraging toy is a really simple one that I sent to my mom for a while for the cockatoo to use. Apparently, she put WHOLE WALNUTS in it and couldn't figure out why Alfie didn't really play with it lol (her birds don't really get foraging toys, they just like to chew stuff up). Then she sent it back to me :p I took this video to send to her so she could see that if you put the right sized treat in there, a bird can and will pull it out (not sure about her amazons, but I know the cockatoo could figure it out). Anyways, since it's one of the rare occasions I video anything, thought I'd share:D (I think you have to click on it and it will take you to photo bucket. If someone knows how to imbed it, please tell me how!)

I have a ball like that which I stuff tight, tight, tight with shredded paper with a peanut or two (in the shell) wrapped up in the middle, then thread it onto a skewer and hang it in the cage. Dexter will methodically empty out every bit of the paper, then hold the ball with a foot and work at those nuts until he cracks the shells and gets the meat out. It might take him an hour to get it done, but he's relentless. I don't think he could get a walnut cracked and emptied out no matter how hard he tried!

That must be MESSY:D I try to avoid small bits of paper (he does just fine making an enormous mess without it lol). That's a good idea to put smaller (than walnuts:09:) nuts in there. I wonder if he could crack a filbert through the toy? He can crack one on it's own.

I have a hanging one like that for Griffin. It came with a chain through the top to hang. Right now it's stuffed with a ton of different toys.

Kiwi sure loves foraging :). Maybe loan the ball to you parents again for Alfie and see what he does with smaller pieces? Griffin is my only forager. I didn't have to teach him, he's a natural, but my others are pretty clueless lol.

Aww Kiwi is so cute! And how smart ;)

Which foraging ball is this? I need to get a large one like this.

We've had this one for a few years and I don't remember where I got it actually. MSBS perhaps? I remember when it arrived I was a little shocked by the size of it (I thought it was going to be a smaller one).
