So, my normal "wake-up" routine with Kiwi is to pull back his covers a bit and coax him out of his little hut by talking to him and making kissy sounds. He acted like he does every other morning, started coming over to give kisses, and instead of a kiss, he grabbed hold of my nose instead! I'm not sure what misfired in his pea-brain, because he wasn't looking aggressive and nothing was out of the norm. Must be the dang hormones (it is that time of year after all). Once I had cleaned it up a bit, I showed him what he had done. I think he knew he had done wrong, because my hubby says he has been extra mellow today and now that I'm home, he keeps offering me lots of "make-up" kisses and making those super adorable "babble" noises I just can't resist.

Almost every customer I helped today at work asked what happened to my nose, and when I explained my bird bit it, the resounding reply was "are you having a roast parrot tonight then?" I had to chuckle a bit, because right now I do want to roast the little turd:09: I got a pic when it happened, and now that it's healing up a bit (thankfully it isn't the worst bite I've ever got, but is probably the most visable).

I was actually pleasantly surprised that it really didn't hurt. I though he had just nipped me until I looked in the mirror and the blood started gushing. I think the nerves in my nose may be shot, as I've been bit across the bridge so many times in my life. I actually have a permanently numb spot on my upper lip and permanent numbness along the side of my right index finger from prior bites, curteousy of my dads cockatoo. This is actually the first time I've got a vertical bite on my nose, and I was shocked a huge chunk of flesh didn't go. I marvel at what amazing creatures parrots are, but I really do wish they had evolved with marshmallow beaks:D

That sucks, ouch! Rosie got me on the face several times(forehead, eyebrow, neck, cheek, lip) but her beak is little and she never got the best hold so they only bleed a little if any.

It looks like a cyclops happy face lol

Rosie is a too? Alfie (goffin) always had the absolute worst bites I have ever taken. He never nipped, he bit to the bone and held on until you pried him off. His beak was about the size of the zons, but his bite was SO much more powerful. Hes a nice enough bird usually, but he has a vicious temper when he decides to go off. I'm not really familiar with rose breasts but I always thought they were about the size of a goffin. Do they actually have smaller beaks? Or maybe you just lucked out with Rosie, and she gives you more gentle lady bites:-)

I've just gotten lucky with Rosie, she never bites me really hard. I'm not sure why. Her first breeding season she acted like she was biting me hard and was very grumpy. The bites did hurt, but it only left a little scrapped skin rather than a bleeding gash. She also doesn't hold on when she bites and unless you jerk back, then she holds on because she gets off balance.

I've heard of some Galahs biting very hard, right to the bone(seems unreal to me, amazing little beaks). The worst bite from Rosie was on my step dad's upper ear, but it didn't even pierce the ear. Blood everywhere though lol.

Ouch! That looks painful to me....Part of the reason why I keep my birds away from my face. I just got bit a few weeks ago by my friend's new Grey that I was helping him to learn how to train him. He bit me on my hand pretty good. Then I was able to get him to learn to step up pretty good after that. My worst bite was from a Cockatoo though, a goffin bit me straight to my bones where I had a huge gash because he wouldn't let go. Java bite me a few times but he always lets go. He give a nasty bite too....

Ouch, i bet that was really painful! Hope you heal quickly...

Ouch! That looks so painful! Hope your nose get better soon!

I don't trust Ozzie near my face since he have a huge beak, he has got my lip once when I wasn't looking and he was in his bluffing stage. Ozzie still sometimes bites, but lucky for me, he doesn't bite hard, and he lets go straight away, he has never hold down for more than 5 seconds.

My worse bite ever was from a surfer crested cockatoo, there's one place at Melbourne where there is wild cockatoos that will come down to you. They are 100% wild but will come to you and eat from your hand if you have sunflower seed. There was 6 on my at once and one lost its balance and hold onto my hand, which was really painful!

Sorry about your nose and hope there is no scar. I learned just recently that a bird cannot be trusted and to keep it away from your face. My macaw bit my lip really good and there was absolutely no provocation for that to occur. I, too, was just asking for kisses and out of the blue he bit me instead.

sorry to hear that, putting a parrot that close to my face is a big no, be careful about your eyes, Whatever and how smart the bird is it's an animal at the end. I've never been bitten by my macaw but my hands have some scars from my eclectus and the majority of them are from my new DYH baby, small ones that are healing up using an antibiotic cream. they are getting so excited while playing or talking so a bite is to be supposed and avoided as much as possible. Also, I'm against kissing any type of birds as it can kill the bird as well as a possible bacterial or any diseases from the saliva etc, Birds tongues are known to contain plenty of bacterias as well for our own health too, it's just my opinion. hope you get well soon.

Since Lucy decided I belonged to her (lol), she's never really bitten me.
We had a 'near' incident after a vet visit. Mom and I wanted to go out for coffee after she had her check-up...when I tried to put her back in her cage for a little bit, she lashed out...she only scraped my upper lip, little brat. Now we do vet or nail trims and go for coffee another day. XD
My ex-roomie is another story...she thought it'd be fun to 'kiss the birdie' and Lucy didn't like that at all...bit clean through her lower lip.
I hope your nose feels better. ^^
