He was a happy and active as ever and the next day he was acting like he wasn't feeling well. So we put some food in a cup on the floor of his cage and wrapped him in a blanket because he seemed cold and turned out the light, about 45 minutes later I turned on the light to check on him and he was gone. I only had him for a little bit but I loved him so much. I'm hoping the pet store will give me a new one but since it's a locally owned store they may not. I only had him for like 2 weeks but he was a joy to have! I'm going to miss him so much and I'm waiting on a African Grey to be hatched and weaned so I won't have a feathered buddy for awhile :( Sorry if I was rambling.

So sorry to hear about Kou, my heart feels your pain.
You must investigate his death................
Perhaps he had an illness which he got at the pet store.
I would have a Necropsy done.... to find out what the cause of death was.
Be strong
R.I.P. Kou

Thank you both, I'm sort of thinking he did have some sort of illness. I really am thinking of calling the humane society and have them do a inspection. RIP Kou!

That's an excellent idea :-)
Do you think the other birds would likely have the same problem and if so the person selling them should be investigated.

I really don't know, I do know I wouldn't buy a budgie from there. The condition of the budgie cages are bad but the cockatiels cages didn't look too bad other than one of the non hand fed cockatiels had a deformed beak :\

I must mention this...............

Where have you placed Kou's body?

If you are going to have an Necropsy you need to immediately put the body in a bag and put it in the refrigerator (NEVER in the freezer).

Doesn't sound too good :-/ . Sounds like he needs to be reported for selling sick birds in a very poor unhealthy environment.

I just have him in a box as of right now, can't really afford one of those probably and I have to go to work tomorrow, I've already taken off all I can afford at the moment, going to have my girlfriend go to the store for me to deal with them while I'm at work. And no it doesn't, I'm going to see if I can get them inspected, I feel so sorry for all those birds :(

Please place Kou's body in the refrigerator, it is very important if you are going to have tests done.

Ok I did. Maybe the store will do a return so maybe I'll get a healthy one. And thank you Wenz !

Please be very careful, if your bird picked up a disease at the pet store, and they offer you another bird, the bird could be sick as well.
In my honest opinion, I would ask for a refund and get a bird from a breeder.

Unfortunately I know they won't give me a refund. This is the second one I got from there :( the first one was super aggressive and they specifically said there was no refunds only exchanges. I'll never buy any bird from there ever again.

Hi cthulhus_minion ... I reckon the store should be sued as I'm thinking its not fair on customers like you that provide a caring and loving home to experience a sad thing like this to happen and their out there selling sick birds trying to make money out of them.
Like you my heart goes out to those poor birds :'(

I agree with anto and if they won't give you a refund then you have rights to this matter.
Hugs to you xo

Did the first bird also die soon after getting him from pet shop?
If that is the case, and it's your second bird I would certainly take matters further.

I'm so sorry for your lost! :( Hugs to you! And fly free little Kou....:'(

If Kou did passed away because of illness, please make sure you clean your house thoroughly before bringing your African grey home! Also that's why it's very important you make sure to take your new parrot to the vet within a week after you bring it home, if there is any illness, it can be treated before it gets any worse. Parrots will hind their illness since that's how they survive in the wild, so it is very hard to tell if a parrot is sick or not. I recommend after you bring your grey home, take him/her to the vet for a check up.

Hope you can find out why Kou passed away

Not that I know of, I think they started using the first one I bought as a breeder.
