And yeah, I know. IDK why state AND year aren't like, just a standard metric. It only makes sense, considering how long-lived parrots are.
I can answer that; if a breeder orders bands with a specific year, and they order too many, those bands become useless to them in the new year. Some bands cost over a dollar each, and breeders see it as a waste.
I personally have year, state, my breeder code, and the bird number on my bands because I think all that info is important. Yes, i “waste money” on the leftover bands but to me it is worth it.
