Alexandrine Ringneck,
about to be getting a Jardine's
I've been searching for a breeder of Mealys, but all the breeders I've found are telling me their Mealys are not longer breeding. Anyone have any leads?

There is a serious shortage of Mealy Breeding Pairs in North American. There are a few, but darn few. There was a Thread within the last maybe four months or less that defined a Breeding Pair, but I do not recall the details. We even had a New Member make a single Thread regarding a very minor issue with a very young Mealy. I am aware of a much older Mealy, that should have a new home, but I have not been able to convince the current owners of such a move. Mealy's are such sweethearts that once in a home, they are lifetime members.

Search back in the Amazon Forum may turn up that Thread, maybe.

Mealy Amazons are true sweethearts, but their colors are so muted that in the past 25+ years, they have not attacked the 'Beautiful' /'Pretty' Designer Parrot market. In combination with the 'Dark' Dangerous Parrot nameplate that Amazons in general have, the entire Amazona family is crashing in North America with less than a quarter of the Breeders of 25 years ago.

Be open to an Older Mealy may help, but even that and an extensive search of the Rescue Centers across North America maybe in vane.

I truly hope you are successful in your search. Please keep us informed!

Like 'Boat said, Mealys are gentle giants, drab in comparison to other 'zons, and really hard to find in the US. I've only had the pleasure to meet one. Big ! All green! And really nicely behaved. Good luck.
