Lola - 8 year old Goffins cockatoo
Hello everyone!! Again, thanks for all the great advice I have been getting. Still struggling quite a bit with Lola - her molting seems never ending. When she does let me peek under her neck feathers, I still see tons of pins. Since she doesn't like showers or getting sprayed with water, I am trying to think of sneaky ways to get her neck and head wet without stressing her out further.

Anyway, tonight I am looking for some food suggestions. Her previous owner fed her a diet of mostly seed mix and peanuts, with things like popcorn, toast and spaghetti thrown in. I have been putting Pretty Bird Natural Gold (I think these are pellets) in her bowl for weeks but she doesn't seem to touch it. I also try and put out a variety of vegetables including carrots, celery, peppers, yams, lettuce, but she seldom touches any of them. Fruits go totally untouched. She does love her carbs, though, bread, spaghetti, cheetos, cheerios, and I am really trying to get her off of these. She does like hard cheese. I tried birdie bread, but she wouldn't touch that either. Also won't eat boiled eggs.

She seems to be in a better mood, even with her molting, so I would like to keep trying different foods, so any suggestions would be appreciated - thanks!!!

this is a little weird but try "eating" pellets and food in front of her. I pretend to eat Oscars food first, make it really dramatic, chew noticeably, make eating sounds, and tell her how good it is. Then offer her a piece. Try offering it in different ways, chopped, sliced, frozen, mashed, on a wooden kabob. you can try giving her warm plain oatmeal cooked in water. good luck!

My Sassy goffins girl, wouldn't eat hard boiled eggs but loves them scrambled, go figure! It might be the little bit of butter I use on the bottom of the pan to keep them from sticking?

My Sarah has the same food pickiness. Try presenting foods in different ways. I offered her bird bread and she disliked it, but when i shredded it she enjoyed eating it. Try eating with her (for example give her a slice of apple and eat a slice of apple yourself) eat with her and if she throws it down catch it and re-give it.

I wouldn't push too hard though. If she still does not want it after a second try just try another food.

Try the more sweet and flavorful fruits first. And my bird LOVES things frozen.

I would try and serve the fruit and vegetables in a different way... If you're currently serving them in a bowl, try putting them on a cabab stick in large chuncks..

Also try sprouted seeds... most birds love those.

I make Zhana scrambled egg in the microwave. just scremble the egg in a bowl mic it for 45 seconds and your done.

my birds like zupreem hot n' spicy and zupreem fruit, and roudybush pellets. they ignore harrison's. i mix their pellets with a little seeds and it seems to works well. you should try zupreem spicy pellets for lola because parrots love spicy flavors.
