Hi

Walter looks like he tries to vomit every time i stroke his cheek. He is doing really well - aparting form biting!! but every time i pet him he starts to look like he is regurgitating. Is this normal or am i choking him :(

How old is he? He may be attempting to feed you, or asking to be fed. Birds regurgitate food for their mates and offspring.

Agree with Lexx! This is a regurgitation/feeding behavior. If this is a young bird stroking the check naturally causes the behavior. He may be trying to feed you or desire to be fed. Try just scritching him on top the head and back of neck and see if it stops.

Agree with everyone else. Let us know if he stops or not

Hi
Thanks for your answers.
He is nearly four months old. I stroke his head he is fine. Its just when i do his cheek. Im worried i'm catching something and its a reflex.
Do male and female conures regurgitate?

birds also do this weird looking stretch/yawn type thing when they are adjusting their crop.... i couldn't really tell what you were describing, so thought id chuck that in there, but what has been said already is most likely. :)

it is because you are stroking over his ear , both my gcc and teil do it.

Actually, there are nerves that lay beneath the commissure tissue that connects the upper maxilla to the mandible. This is what parent birds touch to start the feed reflex in chicks. :)

Both of my birds do it, but I always thought it looked more like a yawn. My girlfriends lovebird regurgitates to her often and it isn't triggered by anything. He just wants to feed everything even his toys.
