Hi Everyone,

On Monday, August 22nd, my Amazon flew away😢

I live in California and there are Amazons that fly by, morning and evening. Finally on Saturday, we think we spotted her on a wire. A flock kept coming to get her but she wouldn't move. She just kept making a begging sound she makes (like a baby bird being hungry) this is why I believe it's my Bird, I've heard and seen her make that sound before. When I got to my bird, the
Amazons came back and convinced her and she flew off. Anyway, we've heard the sound the last 3 days in the morning. I followed it to a block behind ours (a pine tree) and then the birds came and I believe she flew away again. Happened again today, a neighbor called about the distinct sound (no one has ever heard before) coming from same pine tree. Another neighbor says she heard same sound Coming from another tree behind her home. It's so tough and I don't know how to locate her or get her back. I have her cage out in backyard and I put some food in front of house. Does anyone have any tips? I don't even know if it's my bird but the sound and the fact that the bird has been hanging around morning and evening makes me feel like it is. Is there a way to find her when it isn't morning or night? Do Amazons just hang out in trees without making noise, during day? I just worry she is soohungry and want her back home.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks:green1:

So many of us have lost birds in the same way. I wish you all the luck in world in finding your baby. Call local vets, shelters, and businesses around you about your missing bird...get the word out to neighbors. Maybe make up flyers, get on social media. Keep us updated.

If you can see/hear her do any calls/noises/whistles/singing that she would recognise to home in on you. Birds also find it harder to fly down than up so also bear that in mind. Does she actually need rescuing from the tree etc? Sincerely hope your bird makes it home.

Very sorry your Amazon escaped. Placing the cage with food outside is a great first step. The link Terry provided above is a superb way to cover all bases. There are success stories, so keep the faith!

Thanks, Everyone. It's now almost 3 weeks and it's been an emotional roller coaster. We are heartbroken, but also feel blessed to have spent time with Roxie. We are still hopeful, but we've done everything up to this point to try and find her or get her to come home. It's just luck now and it's so painful at times.

Wishing you and Roxie the very best. It is not unusual to have birds missing for great lengths of time reunited. If you are able to inform folks and business within a reasonable radius, the odds are increased.

Where are you located? If she has joined one of the wild Amazon flocks (I know Santa Barbara, Orange County, and San Diego all have wild populations), unfortunately I would think it would be very difficult to get her back. Her instinct to stay with them will be too strong. If that is the case though, the good news is that they know where the food is and she won't go hungry.

Have you posted information on local sites/Facebook pages? Perhaps, being newly escaped, she might land on someone's shoulder or in their yard and be able to be caught? Good luck. I hope you find her.

Hope ou have a tall ladder. If Roxy seems to be roosting in the same tree every night, I would go just after dusk, when she arrives, and climb up to her , saying her name and any pet phrases you used with her. I retreived my little Maxie, a brotogeris, like that, when he flew away . But indeed follow the tips about notifying the area about your missing Roxy, just in case. Really sorry to hear this, as I've had another parrot fly away and never recovered him. Good Luck

Thanks, Everyone. Still no sign of my girl.

I'm so sorry for you..........
