Lost my little friend

I am new to do this. I visit this site all the time and enjoy reading all things related to parrots. I currently have 3 parrots. In the beginning of the week I had 4. I let my birds get fresh air by letting hang out on the bushes that is next to my drive way. The bushes have branches and leaves that birds enjoy alot. Every summer I practice this routine. I have never had experienced any thing out of the ordinary. My friends were enjoying them selves. The Senegal in particular was taking a bath with wet leaves. I was there the whole time sitting in my lawn chair 5 feet away. I was on my iPhone. All of sudden I heard my 6 month old Meyers parrot give out a sharp scream. What I saw would terrify any bird owner. My worst nightmare was unfolding before me. A brown falcon came out nowhere swooped down and took my dear sweet baby away. The whole thing happened so fast that as I got up the predator bird was gone. I ran into the house with my remaining birds and just cried my heart out. I came here to warn any of you to please do not make the same tragic mistake that I did. I no longer take my birds outside only in their bird carriers. I am planning to buy a outdoor aviary for next summer. I am also planning to buy another Meyers because my family was in love with that bird. It was the only bird that would go to my wife. All of my other birds are bonded to me only. I cry everyday for my friend. As I type these words I am holding back tears. I currently own 14 year old female love bird. A 2 year old female Quaker and 7 month old male Senegal parrot. This winter I will be getting a male Red Bellied parrot and of coarse a male Meyers parrot. I still have all the toys of the Meyers in his cage I don't have the heart to remove any of it. I miss him and pray to the Beautifiul Lord to be reunited with him in Heaven.

I'm sorry you had to go through that my friend it is a mistake that most owners make saddly I pray for your feathered friend and we can only hope he escaped the claws of the falcon and find his way back to you never give up hope.

That's so sad. I've seen them circling overhead when I have my parrot out. I see them take off with bunnies and squirrels. Breaks my heart. I had a similar tragedy several years ago. I had my eclectus sweet boy in a room in the basement with me while I was working on something. My new ferret was in the room too, in his cage, sleeping. My son came in the sliding glass door right where my bird was and wanted to show me something that was "in the pool" right outside the door. I went out and told my son to get the net. When he picked up the net, it spooked my parrot, who "flew" to the floor. Apparently, the ferret hear the sound, which woke him up. He escaped through an area of the cage I didn't realize was escapable and ran over and bit him in the back of the head. He died in 3 mins. Worst experience of my life. I'd had the ferret less than 24 hours. I'd had the eclectus 3 years and he was a joy.
