Our beautiful eccy hen died yesterday. Took her to the vet in the morning after she'd been unwell the previous night. We were given electrolyte and antibiotics for her but she wasn't drinking by this time. She collapsed and we took her back, put on a drip but she died.
The vet (NOT avian- the nearest is 900km away) thought she was heat-stressed (it has been low- mid 30s Celcius here, not unusual for much of Australia in summer) but Bella did seem to feel it more than the others. In retrospect we might have brought her inside (she wasn't tame though, so would have been confined to a cage).
Still very upset and wife's crying again this morning. I told her we will never call a bird Bella again as this is second Bella we have lost (first was a 'tiel that panicked and flew off my shoulder).
