Rainbow Lorikeets, Scaly Lorikeets, Eastern Rosellas, Grass Parrots
Hi, my name is Louey and I have Rainbow and scaly Lorikeets, grass parrots, a Indian Ringneck, Eastern Rosella pair a canary and finches. I have them for my pleasure. Love my birds.
I do have a question. What exactly does sex linked mean.

Sex-linked characteristics are those whose genes are found (or not found) on the part of a chromosome that determines whether an individual is male or female. Thus, the gender of the individual will predict whether that characteristic is present or not. So, for example, haemophilia is linked to maleness: females can carry it, but only males suffer the full-blown disorder.

Think of the X and Y chromosomes. The only difference between them is the little tail of material the Y chromosome does not have (if it had it, then it would be an X, right?) That tiny piece of material often makes the difference between having or not having a life-threatening or life-changing condition. It also makes the difference between being male or female, so it's linked to gender. Hope that makes sense??? :)
