Doobie, a Pineapple Green Cheek Conure baby about 6 weeks old (on May 11, 2020)
Is there a way to tell from the sere if a green cheek is male or female? Doobie is about 6 months old. I've been referring as "him" but not too sure. I do not plan on sexing the bird to find out. Just wondering if there is any other way to get a hint of the gender. :gcc:
Thanks for any input

The best way to tell (and only way with certainty) is via DNA test. You can order DNA tests or usually a groomer can help. Vets can do it as well, just a little pricier. There are a lot of claims for gender with conures (males have flatter heads; females have softer eyes [whatever that means]), but the only sure way to know is a DNA test.

I used one of the online tests , maybe it wa this one or a different one
But you print their sheet clip the very top of a toe nail to get tiny drop of blood put on the sheet and mail it off I know it cost 20 bucks or less. I use flour on paper towel and hold on nail till bleeding stops. Be careful to just nick the very tip of toe nail, I used baby nail clippers or kitten nail clippers to cut just the very tip , burd wrapped in towel having s helper us best

I just found a video on YouTube: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LaEbR_mJ_I"]how to difference between male and female in all parrots urdu/hindi - YouTube[/ame]
It isn't conure specific, but it helps identify male/female in lots of birds.
After watching the video I felt the pelvic bones and they seem to be a little wider apart. I'm thinking maybe Doobie might be a girl!

Might work , not really reliable tho....
I’ve done this on burds I’ve had DNA test done and I have actual male and female if the same species to compare to. I could not have determined .

I guess I should add that, the only other way to know for certain would be if it laid an egg - female for sure [emoji38]

None way guarantee the conure gender without DNA test. Exceptions are:
- female laid an egg
- had been bred

- when bird parents mutations are known and is possible to say the gender knowing genetics (possible not from each parent "combination", in some still impossible)
