Parrots
Yellow Shouldered Amazon
Quaker parrot
He has a natural perch, sand perch, rope toy, hanging toy, and a foraging wheel. He stays in there while I'm at work or to sleep, otherwise he spends his time outside his cage.

Very nice set up. I see the large sand perch(not my favorite perch) i'd look for a large diameter natural perch, maybe 1/12" or 2" diameter. Where you at , i'll send you one.

he looks like he really is happy there :D nice cage set up :D it looks fairly roomy for a sleep cage D:

I would add one more wooden chew toy, if possible.

It doesn't have to be anything fancy. I generally just go down to the lumber yard, get a pine 2x4, cut it into blocks and drill the center, and hang it from sissal rope.

That generally makes a giant $5.00 bird toy!!! And active birds really do need to chew up wood...

I also tend to agree with sand perches not being my favorite. That can irritate a bird's feet if he is on it too much.

The other favorite amazon perch is a boing or rope perch... I've yet to see a zon that didn't love those...

You can get a horse lead for about $6 or 7.00, and loop it around a cage that size using those toddler links, and the bird can have a whole bunch of rope perches, swings, and "vines" to climb for a fraction of the cost of one rope perch... That's a hot ticket!

hum... so it's ok to leave ur amazon in that size cage for abount 9 hours a day?
I ask because my parrot has an identical cage.
Wanted to change it, but my bird is freaked out of anything different, so I just left him have the cage that his old owners got him.

Hindsight being 2020 I would of bought a bigger cage but Mango is a yellow shouldered amazon so he is smaller than the other species. He is about 3/4 size of a Blue front. I wouldn't keep any of the larger Amazons in that cage.

Jackie HATED the boing lol wouldn't go near it! He was a perch potato though and always serious lol

Toddler links!! I have a bunch of those!! Thanks for the idea :D

Billy- nice set up! How does mango like it?

I also bought one of those big sand perches but it was purple and Jackie FREAKED as soon as I pulled it out of the bag lol so it got tossed in a box never to return...

Mango seems happy, I let him out of it and he will climb back in.

if he is only in it when you work and when he sleeps, it's not too bad. it may not be the largest cage, but it's still pretty roomy for sleeping and some entertainment when his flock isnt around.

in time you can always get a bigger cage, but it's not the worst.

though, he's got a lot more space up top, why not place a perch or two up top and a few toys? i love the foraging wheel by the way, does he use it?

They almost always recoil in horror at first sight. It's pretty much a normal first reaction for a zon...

Set it down next to them. Let them get used to it first, then get curious, explore the new thing, and then attack it. Once they attack it, and kick it's butt, then they are usually fine with it.

THEN hang it up.

Some birds just don't like new things without a proper introduction...

The cage itself is plenty big enough for a zon. That is not a problem at all. Especially since he gets a lot of "out time."

With a zon, it's the amount of "out time" that's important.

I had a foster zon that was kept in a green cheek conure cage for 35 years... difference is it was kept out on a big playstand all day, and only went in the cage to sleep at night.

When I got her, I kept her in a macaw cage... and the door never closed. Which roughly translated, means she only went inside to eat.
