MY 18 month rose front conure has picked up a new behavior. She likes to put one leg on one hand and the other leg on the other hand, look up to me, and start garbling as if she is trying to talk. I believe I used the word "manspreading" correctly as that is when a man gets on the bus/subway and spreads their legs wide open that results in taking away the seat next to him for someone else to use.

This new behavior is amusing and it is one of the few times she looks me in the face and tries to communicate. Usually she sits on my shoulder and yaps away in my ear. I enjoy this new behavior but worry that it might be sexual in nature. I do not want to stimulate hormones.

Has anyone else observed this behavior?

At about the 18 month mark your conure could indeed be experiencing her first hormonal flush. Her “manspreading” sounds hilarious, and it sounds to me like she’s doing a fair bit of “mansplaining” as well!

I'm staying with it just being "communication."
Continue to encourage communication by reacting positively to her efforts.
At some point, a word of three will pop-out and it will bowl you over! Those are moments to enjoy fully!

Manspreading, Hmmm, best to leave well enough alone! :D

My GCC will put a foot on me and garble talk, as well as say words. If I'm not paying attention she grabs a hunk of my hair and flips it, then gives me an eye to eye look! It take as pay attention!
I agree with above, just trying to connect with you and communication. Very cute thread title!

Now I am going to have a sitting complex.
