I'm so excited to welcome Clifford to our home. Hes a 3 year old sun conure. We saw him about a month ago at the pet store and decided to buy him, we spent many days going to play with him and get to know him, and researching parrot care before we decided we were the right owners for him. At the pet store he was very hand tame and plaful and so so so cuddly. Once we got him home he changed. He will not come out of his cage, he doesnt talk like he used to, no matter how many times I say "clifford's a pretty bird", and he even bit me! Poor guy is probably confused I know. And I'm absolutley sure he wants to come out and play because he screams when one of us leaves the room, he is just so scared. I guess I'm going to start over and let him get to know me in his new environment. I'm hoping he warms back up soon, because I miss playing with him. Plus, my budgies are learning how to scream like him.....though they are not nearly as loud, the last thing I want is a house full of screaming birds :-/
Wish us luck!

Thanks guys! :-)

Happy u joined us. Yes, it would be best to start all over agan as if he does not know you. He is scared for sure. You need buckets of patience when it comes to bonding with a new bird. I am sending you a link to enrich your understanding of parrots and to enrich your new bird's life.

Thank you Spiritbird, nice link :-)

Welcome to you, Clifford and your budgies! Yes, time and patience.

Good luck, we all had to start with our first bird sometime! It's been 18 months for me but some days it feels like day 1 all over!

He's slowly warming up. He came out of his cage today to get a few head scratches and to yell at the dogs. Hes a funny guy.

That's great news! I'm currently in the "start over" phase with Stitch; he was rehomed with us about 2 1/2 weeks ago. He was very happy where he was, and our house is a totally new environment to him, so he's learning about us and we about him! I can't get him to step up for me (he will for my husband) but he lets me scratch and stroke him pretty liberally. The board here is very, VERY helpful. That link is great, too.
