--PUMPKIN - male YS GCC. Hatched Halloween Day 2014. Came home Jan. 4, 2015. Started talking in July '15!

-BUTTERNUT- female TYS GCC Hatched in late Jan. 2016 and came home March 14, 2016
This is my new baby budgie. I've had him for one week. He's already stepping up to come out of the cage and play on the gym. He definitely still needs work on step up training but for one week, he's doing very well!

Does anyone else agree he looks like a boy? Or does anyone think girl?

Congrats on the budgie! So cute!

A pale blue cere and white around the nostrils is typical of females, though some males will also have this. So it's kind of hard to tell. Males usually have plain pink or even purple ceres when young. At least that's what I have read on multiple sites.

Maybe it's a bad pic. In person he does not seem to have the white rings around the nostrils. But it's so hard to tell with the different mutations...

Well whether its Mr Darwin or Miss Darwin I have to say you are the cutest ever bundle and I love the name...congratulations on your new baby Darwin he /she is Adorable :)

Darwin is a male :). Such a little cutie! Congrats Ann. I love his color mutation and markings, beautiful! This sort of mutation will have a blue cere upon maturity. An even color pinkish cere at this age is indicative of a boy.

Thanks everyone. He was just so cute I had to bring him home. I try to not do that but sometimes you find one that tugs at your heart strings....

Yep... that's how I ended up with budgies... many years after having parrots too! I saw Twigs and that was it, had to add him to the flock lol.

Twigs is the cutest name! I absolutely love the small birds. If I knew more about them I'd really like to get a canary. But id still want it tame and I'm not sure if they can be. Originally I wanted larger parrots but I'm finding that I think the smaller birds parrots or not are my favorites. People will come to my house and be amazed that such a small bird as Pumpkin can talk and understands commands when I'm talking to him. A lot of people think of just Macaws and cockatoos when they think parrot. I enjoy spreading awareness of the little guys. I hate that people view them as disposable.

Yes :)! Me too... I've also had large birds in the span of more than 2 decades that I've had parrots. Although I've loved them all, I am in the minority too, since I have to say that smaller is my absolute favorite size of bird. There is just a certain kind of cuteness about the little ones. Actually Raven is a little bigger than my favorite size. Although I wouldn't mind another medium sized like him. I'm maxed out for the foreseen future.

I know many people see the stereotype of starting with budgies, then going to a small parrot, then it's the 'end all be all' when you go large once you have more experience. Lol, it isn't always that way :).

I agree. I love how much attitude and personality they have packed into their tiny little bodies! Haha. I love these guys.
