Such a handsome fellow.

I guess he just doesn't have the hots for Luna. Maybe she's just not his type and that's a good thing for you or you would be in the Amazon breeding business. I know that with most budgies you can't just take a male and a female and put them in a breeding cage with a box and expect them to make baby budgies. I say "most" because I do have some that would probably do it with a stuffed animal!

Yes, from what I understand, Amazons very much choose their partners, and won’t breed readily with just anyone.

He is beautiful. I love that picture. The look in his eyes is so prescious.

It could be that this is best.
The important thing to me is they get along together.
And they mostly do.

Had a conversation with Grok about the lack of passion between them.
It gave me several possibilities but the one that makes sense is Merlin’s age.
He was only about 1 year old when I bought him.
He was literally pulled out of a cage with his siblings.
So he may see Luna as a big sister rather than a potential mate.

I dont know about that. Once birds reach sexual maturity they don't have any issues with mating with siblings their parents (GASP!). The age difference doesn't bother them, nor does the "family relationship". Budgie breeders trying to breed for certain mutations sometimes breed a son or daughter back to one of their parents. Breeding siblings together is considered a worse inbreeding than crossing back to a parent because siblings share more genetic material that parents and their children, apparently, but I wouldn't do it.

They say parrots like to chose their own mates so maybe Luna isn't Merlin's type or Merlin isn't Luna's, probably more Luna not being Merlin's from what you describe.

My English budgies, unlike my regular budgies, aren't interested in pairing up and mating with each other and I have 3 males and 3 females, all young and healthy. I'm happy they aren't because I don't want more budgies.
