It was on the 16th April while I was sick and I missed it! Rats! My beautiful green babies have been with me for one year and they are the light of my life! I think we'll have a belated little party for them tomorrow because this certainly warrants a celebration. Dominic can be MC, I think. He's a Very Important Bird, especially when he raises his hat... :D

Congrats to The Beaks Trish! :D it would be fun to see pics of the celebration! I hope you're feeling all better too.

It's never too late for celebration!!!! Make them a carrot cake!!! :)

Happy one year with Trish!!!!! I bet the Beaks love to call you their mum and Dommie their bro. Congrats on having them one year Trish - they are beautiful. Cannot wait to see some celebration pics. Bundii reaches the big 5 this year.

For sure a reason to celebrate! :D

One year already, hey? That seemed to have flown by.

And I agree, pictures would be lovely. :)

Sorry, I didn't even dream of photos - we celebrated with a bowl of porridge shared between Barney, Madge, Dommie and me. The Beaks were quite keen to scoff the lot, but I refrained from allowing it. Dommie was also quite keen on the porridge and he got the lion's share (after my good self, of course). Do you have any idea how hard it is to prevent three birds from diving into a porridge bowl while you're trying to cool it for them? Dom is not best pleased when the Beaks come near him, but he's even less pleased when they come near me. He still hates me with a passion, but apparently no one else is allowed to be friends with me. Sigh.

While all this was going on, my Hunn was in bed with man-flu, dear son was busily working on his latest sketch and dear daught was snoring the snore of the teenager who sat up far too late last night. The cat, ginger Seamus, was meowing pitifully at the door asking to be let in with the mouse he had just caught. As I said, three birds were trying to dive into the porridge...

Always drama going on at our place! LOL!

Aww, Happy Belated Adoption day to those beautiful Beaks! I am so glad they enjoyed their porridge (did you get any at all?). I would also love to see pics, even if they are after celebration pics:) Sending big hugs from all of mine to Madge, Barney and Dommie;)

Happy (belated) adoption day to Barney and Madge! Glad they enjoyed their porridge, and might I say- it isn't too late to make some cinnamon apple cupcakes and share the photos of everyone celebrating (heck, you might even get the whole family to join in on those;)).

Happy Adoption Day!!! And for shame, Trish, not taking any pics of the porridge celebration! I just want to cosign with those calling for post celebration pics!

Happy late Gotcha' Day to Barney and Madge! So sorry about the porridge although it sounds like the beaks got their share. Of course I want to see pics also.

Happy adoption day!! And may I ask... What do you do to your porridge, do you add brown sugar? How do u make it, just uncle Toby's instant porridge? Thanks!! Congratulations!!

LOL! I just use El Cheapo home brand quick-cooking oats. I cook it in plain water until it's nice and stodgy, then I add milk until it's nice and creamy and then I add a disgusting amount of brown sugar. And then, I scarf it down in a hurry before hungry birdies can steal too much of it! I don't like them getting the stuff with the sugar in it, but they've already found the brown porridge tastes really nice. If you've ever tried to prevent a pair of Alexes from getting what they want, you'll know how 'interesting' that conversation can be. :D

FWIW, this porridge is the very best way I've ever found of putting weight onto an animal which has been poorly. It works for dogs and cats and horses and (sadly) people. Once, I horse-sat a grey mare called Foxtrot. She was so skinny, you couldn't ride her bareback. The owner reckoned he had tried 'everything' to get weight on her, but nothing had worked. I had Foxtrot for six weeks and in that time she had a warm oatmeal mash every morning with a big fat dipper of black molasses. By the time she went home to her owner, she was quite acceptable-looking. I won't say she was fat or even filled-out, but she was a great deal better! Another time, my sister had a blue merle collie who suffered from pancreatitis. She was unable to eat many foods, but we found a daily helping of oatmeal porridge helped her recover her weight and her good health. It's great stuff! Sticks to your ribs! :D
